The Blogging Interview ~ Domesticated Momster

The Blogger Interview Domesticated Momster

I was tagged by the lovely Jemma at Living Life Nottingham.  I am always happy to get to know my fellow bloggers more and also to have a reason to write a new blog post without having to think of what the heck I am going to write about.  Blogging can be such a cycle sometimes as you can read in my funny post about that here.  I promise that if you are a blogger you will want to read it for a good laugh if anything else.  Now onto the interview with yours truly!

How did you get into Blogging?

I literally sat down one day and thought…hmmm…I am going to start a blog.  I wanted to do something useful with the free time I had.  Not that there was an abundance of it with 4 kids and a husband to tend to, but I felt like I needed to be a part of something I could call all my own.
What advice would you give to a blogger just starting out?

Do your research!  If you think that blogging is something that you really know you are going to want to stick to then start off self hosted right away.  And when you have decided on the name of your blog…stick with it throughout all social media.  Makes it easier for those searching to find you!  I learned everything through trial and lot of error!  Don’t be afraid to ask fellow bloggers questions.  Most of us are happy to help you.  I had not a clue what I was doing in the beginning and have learned so much in the past several months.

How has your blog changed since you started writing it?

When I first started my blog…I wrote a few pieces then went on pretty much a hiatus for several months.  Upon returning I decided I was either going to go at it full throttle or shut it down.  I am happy that I made the right decision.  Now I couldn’t imagine my life without my blogging.  It’s like my own little piece of me in the world-wide web.  I host two linkys every week that I never thought I would be doing and am getting more organized in what I do daily with my blog.  I have met so many great people through blogging and love being a part of the blogging community.  I also love creating my graphics and designed the Domesticated Momster logo.  I find that graphic design can be soothing and a little bit of a break from actual blogging.

What would be your dream campaign?

I honestly haven’t thought about a perfect campaign yet.  I started this blog as a hobby and now have realized that I want to do something more with it.  To make money doing something that I love and to be able to still be at home for my kids would of course be ideal.

What advice would you give to PR’s wanting to approach you for a campaign?

Please don’t ask me to advertise for you for free or ask me to review a product that I haven’t actually been given a sample to try.  I work hard at my blog and to give away myself or be dishonest is not what I want this blog to be about.

Do you have a plan for you blog?

For now it’s just to build a good reader base and to connect with people, primarily businesses and fellow bloggers.  I will also continue to seek great content to write about.

What do you think about rankings?

I think they drive me crazy when I decide to frequently check them.  This mainly happens after I have written a piece that I am proud of.  I am learning though, that numbers aren’t everything…my reputation is.

I am passing this tag along to the following bloggers.  If you are not tagged and wish to participate PLEASE DO!  I would love to learn more about you so be sure to leave the link in my comments!

  1. What a great idea! Great answers as well! I’m with you on the whole PR thing. I keep getting asked to review things I haven’t used and that really have nothing to do with my blog.. And yes stats can be addictive and annoying – except when they’re great of course 😉 #snotallaboutyou

  3. I never imagined blogging would be this hard to keep up with. Constantly having to think of content and i have reviews coming out of my ear holes! I guess you can only do what you can. quality not quantity and all that. Great insight thank you xx

  4. It’s great to hear how people got started. I love these start-up stories that are doing the rounds. I feel like a newbie blogger even though its been months now. My posts are so random – hopefully I’ll find my rhythm soon!

  6. Thank you for nominating me, Trista! Love your answers- especially the note about how numbers are nothing compared to reputation. I totally agree. Acting self-absorbed, greedy, or being cut throat isn’t the way to succeed. Our readers (and blogger friends) will see right through it. Xx

  7. I really appreciate your thoughts and honesty. I have no idea about numbers. How many views makes a post ‘good’ – also you mentioned rankings – where do you find rankings of your blog? I’m in Australia – maybe we don’t have that. #momsterslink Mel xx

    1. My blog is through WordPress and they have a stats page. I’m also on Top Mommy Blogs under Stay At Home Moms that I check from time to time. There’s also Klout.com which you just sign up for and it gives you a score. You have great posts! They’re all good! Thanks for linking with me for #momsterslink!

    1. It is really hard not to focus on stats when first starting out. I go back and look at my stats when I first started blogging and am proud how far I’ve come. We were all newbies once. If I can help you with anything please don’t hesitate to ask 😉

    1. Thank you so much Clare! So nice of you to say. I have really tried to calm down a bit about the ranks and stats. The thing I love most about blogging is reading and connecting with other bloggers. It’s the whole reason I started in the first place. It has been so nice getting to know you as well and consider you part of my “blogger posse” ;D

  13. I took part in this tag the other week (you might remember) I’ve found it really interesting reading other people’s answers. It seems the general consensus about PR’s expecting us to review or write something for nothing is the same!
