~Favorite Quote #22~

Favorite Quote #22 #quotes inspiration music soul feelings

I have always surrounded my life with music.  I could give up tv in a heartbeat but I could never live without the sound of a good tune.  I have heard that when you are happy you “feel” the beat and when you are sad you “hear” the lyrics.  That is exactly what music does to me.

I recently did a post about One-Hit Wonders and listed a bunch of songs in which brought back so many memories for me.  Some good…some not so good but the fact that music has that kind of effect on me is amazing!  One song can spark a specific memory, can bring tears to my eyes and even plant goosbumps on my skin.  It can make me want to dance or put me to sleep. It’s truly been an important tool for me throughout my life.

The reason “No Doubt” is my all time favorite band is not only because they make great music but Gwen really pours her life onto the pages of those songs.  As an artist I think it’s so important to bleed sometimes. To be real.  On that note I will leave you with one of their songs that got me through a hard time in my marriage when my husband and I were apart due to his job and a part of me started to believe that “maybe I didn’t need him” this song helped bring me back to the reality that I truly did.

Undone

I’m broke
Let me show you where it hurts
I’m trying to be brave
This wasn’t in my plan and nothing you can do, I’ve changed

It’s such a waste

I’m undone
And there’s nothing I can do this time, it’s all out of my hands
And just when I was getting good
Why’s it have to end?
I don’t understand

And don’t leave me behind
This time I need you, nothing’s feeling right
Oh, I’m in trouble, help me
No one needs you more than me

I know
I made you feel like you were lucky to have me
But now I’m panicking, I’m lost, you’re the one I need
Be patient please
And don’t leave me behind
This time I need you, nothing’s feeling right
‘Cause I’m in trouble, help me
No one needs you more than me

Change me back
Please, change me back
I don’t know who I am anymore
I can’t take it anymore

And don’t leave me behind
This time I need you, nothing’s feeling right
‘Cause I’m in trouble, help me
No one needs you more than me

No one needs you more than me

  1. I’ve never heard this song before, and you just made me a HUGE fan. It’s beautiful and real, just like you said. The things you say about music are exactly how I feel! (Seriously, did you write this post or did I??) Music has no comparison to television or movies. Life without music wouldn’t be worth living! I’ll be pinning this quote and sharing it with the world! ❤ #candidcuddles

    1. Have you never listened to “No Doubt” before Katie??? Or just this particular song? I love all their music and even when Gwen went solo…I just love her…she’s truly an awesome role model. And yes I will forever love music!

  2. Oh, you are speaking to the choir sister! Music is my thang (in case you haven’t noticed by my blog name. haha!) and I love No Doubt! They are awesome! Gwen is on the Voice this season. I watch that show just to watch Adam Levine (all those pretty tattoos, *drool*). She’s great on the show! I still remember when they first came out with Just A Girl. I have to go listen to that song now. Brings back memories! I love your quote! visiting from #candidcuddles

    1. Yes she was on there last season too…she’s been my idol most of my life. I saw No Doubt before they were even famous in a club in Vegas…and I remember thinking wow these guys are amazing …they’re going somewhere! A couple years later Spiderweb was at the top of the charts. No matter how famous they all became the band has always stayed rooted. I could talk about them for hours lol. Oh and yes that Adam Levine is quite the coochie wiggler with those tattoos and those eyes of his 😉

  3. Great quote, and I couldn’t agree more. I don’t know what I would do without music, it’s pulled me through some very rough times in life. I love that no matter what language music is in its universal too, everyone can relate that’s what makes it so wonderful. Thanks for sharing #candidcuddles

  4. Oh one of my favourites, I love everything about Gwen Stefani including her stylish little boys. I think this song speaks to a lot of people but it seems to be especially special to you and what a great song to share. I’m glad you realised you needed your husband before it was too late x x x #candidcuddles

    1. Thank you Lisa 😉 It was a hard 3 years on both of us but I look back at it now and realized that we were just lucky to have him working in a solid industry. I am thankful everyday that he is the hard worker he is and even though there are times I miss my life in southern Nevada, I realize that home is truly where my family is. Thanks for popping over from the lovely #candidcuddles.

  6. Just a few days ago I was telling my eldest how I don’t know how some people are’t ‘into’ music. Yes okay let’s not focus on the fact that I inadvertently taught her to judge people by saying that lol. But she’s just like me (God help her) and much as we clash, we have a shared love of music and react in the same way to it. I LOVE that line about the beat and the lyrics!! Thanks for linking to #BabyBrainMonday my lovely.

    1. Yes I have been listening to music a lot lately and getting my minis into listening to it more as well. My 4 year old just loves music and is learning guitar and will put a bunch of items together to make drums …and she’s good at following the beat. Whether I’m sad, mad, or happy …music makes everything even better. Thanks for hostessing lovely…and congrats on the new position :0)

  7. “When you are happy you feel the beat and when you are sad you hear the lyrics”. That is so true! When I’m happy I put on the fast tracks and just kind of dance round the kitchen being silly but when I am down I cry along to the words and I never even realised that as such until I read your post.

  8. This is so cool. I love music, but really only listen to it in the car. But the music that takes me back is the 80s stuff, I used to listen all the time then, and Gospel music. A church hymn takes me back to my younger years in the church I grew up in. I can hear my Gran singing behind me, and I feel wrapped up in love. Great post. Thanks for the memories.

  10. This is so funny because my husband and I were JUST talking about 20 minutes ago about how music has shaped our lives to much and how all 3 of our kids are very musical as well. Also, side note, when I was in high school No Doubt was playing a lot of high school/garage parties along with Sublime (I grew up in Long Beach, CA) and I went to a back yard party where No Doubt was playing and my friends and I were like, “These guys are going to be HUUUGE!” So that’s kinda my cool No Doubt story. Amazing to see how successful she has gotten!

    1. That’s an awesome No Doubt story! I saw them in a night club in Vegas before they were huge and was just fascinated with their sound and Gwens energy …she has been a role model for me since before I can remember. The night before I found out I was pregnant with my first child, my husband had taken me to see No Doubt…I remember there was a pregnant woman with a tank top that said “I’m just a girl” and I remember thinking to myself how cool to be pregnant at a No Doubt concert 😉 I literally found out the very next day I was expecting. Thanks for sharing your No Doubt story and linking with #momsterslink

  11. No Doubt was one of my favourite bands too! In fact a number of their songs helped one of my best friends through her separation…and back together!! They have just done 10 years and have a lovely little girl. So it sounds like their magic has worked wonders on both sides of the world! Its amazing what you remember and often find myself singing along to the lyrics when they come on in the car! Really should did those CDs out… thanks for hosting #momsterslink xx
