That’s A Wrap ~ December 5, 2015

It’s been a busy week here in Souzaville.  We kicked off the week with hubby’s birthday.  He still has an illusion thinks he’s 20 something.  I sometimes have the illusion that he’s older than me.  But he proved me wrong by keeping me out until 3am and I had to get up with the kids at 6am and see that they got off to school.  I then returned home and crawled back into bed until I had to pick them up again.  Proof I am old and can’t hang much past 9pm midnight these days.

I am proud to say that this is the first year that we have all our Christmas shopping done the first week of December and even half of it wrapped.  Usually we are bashing people with shopping carts trying to make our way through the rest of the holiday procrastinators in one piece on the last week before Christmas.  We don’t do Black Friday but Cyber Monday is awesome! Nothing like doing all your shopping and not having to even leave your recliner.

I have been bugging my husband for the past several Christmas’ about putting up lights on the outside of the house.  Yes I know I’m perfectly capable of doing it myself but when we moved into our new house he claimed he didn’t want to make holes in the trim to hang the lights that will only be seen once a year for a month.  Well luckily for him me this year we were introduced to the laser lights.

Basically it’s a projector contraption that you stake into the ground and point at the house which then displays thousands of tiny little red and green sparkles upon your house.  It’s pretty genius really.

Markle, the elf, has made his yearly appearance again.  Yes out of all the “name suggestions” in the book my kids decided upon Markle.  They had named him something last year, but like the domesticated momster I am, I forgot to write the name in the book.  I am pretty sure they named him Steve or Carl or some common name like that but now he is Markle, and its set in stone sharpie in the book.  Anywho, he has been up to quite the shenanigans already.

Follow me on Instagram for all my elf shenanigans.

I also volunteered at my monster B’s school for what they call “Jenny’s Penguin Patch Kids Holiday Shop” where the elementary school kids are able to shop for their families.  This is done by an envelope being sent home in which the parents put whatever amount of money in the envelope and then instructions on who and what amount is to be spent… Yeah right.  There’s nothing like trying to help a 3rd grader shop for a list of 20 people with $20 in his envelope and the first thing he picks is a $5 mug for grandma.

One little kid kept telling me how his dad was always grumpy and in a bad mood…unfortunately there wasn’t any coal for sale.  Don’t worry, I didn’t tell him that but I did mention to the head organizer that next year she should order bricks made of cardboard with name tags in which the kids can fill in the name of whoever is “grumpy” to them.

Then there were the kids with no instructions on how much to spend on who so they bought 25 cent erasers for every person in their family and then spent $18 on themselves.

Let’s just say it was an interesting afternoon…and I signed up to do it again on Monday😳.  **takes note to put wine in her sippy cup**

We have been watching a plethora of Christmas movies in the evening but I always save my best one for last.  I’ll leave you with my favorite quote from the movie and see if you can guess it.

  1. What a busy week!

Mikey’s primary school used to have a similar thing to “Jenny’s Penguin Patch Kids Holiday Shop”. We had to send some money in to school in an envelope and then at a small Christmas Market, all gifts cost a £1 and they could choose anything they wanted. Mikey used to buy some really cute things!

    That’s National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! That’s my family’s favourite

  2. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! It’s my favorite Christmas movie too! I also usually procrastinate with Christmas shopping but this year, I was able to get the shopping mostly done for my boys. Just a few more small gifts to get and I’ll be done:-)

    1. The name is actually one of the names in the book and when I read it to them that’s what they shouted out they wanted to name him. 😉 Hubby is the shopper…he loves shopping therefore he finds the deals and then just shows me lol

  3. Ahh, I have only just come across elf on the shelf so its going to be feature on our house next year I think! We don’t shop on black Friday or the whole weekend in fact and I still have more shopping to do so I must get on that this week! Great post 🙂

  4. Those laser lights sound like a brilliant idea. Markle…that’s such a funny name! He seems like a mischievous little elf too, I hope he is helping the children get into the Christmas spirit. Speaking of Elf, Elf is one of my favourite Christmas films, but my most favourite is The Grinch! #KCACOLS

  5. Sometimes I think I’d like to cut loose on a big night after the past year and half of being pregnant and feeding, but then I read your story and knew I wouldn’t be able to hack it, haha! Your elf is cute, so funny that you all forgot what he was called last year, but Markle is a pretty cool name 🙂 #justanotherlinky

    1. It’s just so hard to recover after a night out these days which is why I don’t do it much anymore. I love doing the elf except when I’m all snuggled into bed and remember that I forgot to move him 😁 thanks for popping over

  6. I LOVE Christmas Vacation. I haven’t watched it this Christmas yet but it will make an appearance soon. I also love A Christmas Story 🙂 That light projector is genius! Your elf is so clever & funny. I love his antics, I’m sure your kiddies do too. Happy birthday to your hubby. And amen to the Cinderella quote x

    1. I love Christmas Story too! They don’t play it here until on Christmas Eve for 24 hours it just keeps repeating and I love watching it and then falling asleep to it knowing that when I wake it’s Christmas! I love thinking up of ideas with my elf unless I’m really tired …like last night I just moved him to a shelf …my son woke up and said he couldn’t find him and then when he did he said that he was boring elf. I told him he must have just been too tired for shenanigans 🙂

  7. Oh this makes me feel very disorganised! I am usually completely done and wrapped by now but this year there are mountains of presents stuffed in every cupboard and no time to get any of it done! I am going to dedicate a full day to it next week when the children are with my parents and get on a mission! Wish me luck!! #jsutanotherlinky

  9. What busy week!!! I understand you pretty well about feeling old when you go out!! I can’t stay up to late as my body can resist it anymore!! It is amazing how things change with the years!! I’m getting old!! I love the idea of those laser lights!! It is genius and perfect for lazy men as you said LOL I haven’t done my xmas shopping yet!! Can you believe it!!! I was going to take advantage of the black Friday and cyber Monday but at the end I don’t know what happened and we didn’t do it!! What a shame!! I regretted it so much! Our favourite Xmas movie is Elf with Will Ferrel. We just laugh so much when we watch it and we have watched lots of times!! We are also loving Felix our Elf on the Shelf. Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS. I’m so happy to have you again this week!! 🙂 xxx

  10. You’ve WRAPPED the presents?! I’ve told myself I’m going to start on Monday. Yeah right. Laughed so much at the kid buying erasers line. That whole idea. Is it common? They don’t do that in Malta.

Yep we’ve watched Elf (too funny for words) and Miracle on 34th so far. LOVE Christmas films.

Love the new (well new to me) blog header!

    1. Thanks doll. Yeah I guess they do the shopping thing at the elementary every year here. This is just the first year I have a kid in elementary. And no worries I still have a lot more wrapping to do as I ordered more shit lol falalalalala
