Workout Wednesdays ~ Jan 13, 2016

workoutwed1.jpg

I have made it to another Wednesday and sticking to my goal of getting skinnier healthier in 2016.  This last week I have started trying to get to Zumba twice a day/2 to 3 times a week now.  The energy in the class is just so eminent and although I have lost some of that fabulous rhythm I had when I was 20 something…I still have such a good time.

I am also doing a bit of weight lifting.  The best thing about weight lifting is that even when you’re through your body is still burning calories trying to soothe those worked muscles.

As far as what I am eating these days, I am trying to stick to low carb.  I can’t function without any carbs.  I get way too tired and weak so I do try to eat healthy carbs.  I find that when I am in a hurry and need a quick meal, the Lean Cuisines and Smart Ones meals work best for me.  I know they are not that good for you as they are full of sodium but it’s still better than grabbing a cheeseburger when I am on the go.  But if I had my choice, I would eat fish and greens every night for dinner.  Problem is I have a family to feed and they would get bored if I kept feeding them the same thing every night.  So there are a lot of times I find myself making two different meals.

And for those of you wondering….it is day 13 and still NO ALCOHOL!  **applauds herself** I did however start buying the lime infused Perrier water.  They come in little 8 ounce cans and it seems to do the trick when a craving comes on for some carbonation.  I also put fresh lemons in the cups of water that I drink throughout the day.  Plain water gets very boring after awhile.

My husband and I went to our local watering hole last weekend.  The place where they serve all the good beers in frosty mugs from the tap.  The place that we have NEVER been to without ordering a beer.  And we ordered ice teas with our meal.  Even the waitress who knows us looked a little shocked when neither of us ordered our usual frosty mug of hefeweizen.  **wipes drool**

diets eating health fitness funny humor

My husband commented on the fact that I used both little cup containers of dressing on my salad.  The dressing came on the side and of course he only used one.  I just looked at him…with the look and informed him that I had given up alcohol and all junk food, therefore I was putting dressing on my salad.  Only I believe there were a few cuss words thrown in there as well.

Let’s face it…my usual for that place was a cheeseburger, fries with lots of ranch or even worse…onion rings, and 2-3 large frosty mugs of beer.  And on most occasions I got a dinner salad smothered in ranch to begin with.  So yeah…I wasn’t concerned with the amount of dressing I was using.  I didn’t even finish the salad.

I also refrained from eating the scrumptious looking pizza at my son’s birthday party nor did I have a single piece of cake.  Sweets have never been much of a problem for me but man do I love pizza!

But don’t worry…I will be rewarding myself for all this hard work on Super Bowl Sunday!  That’s Feb 7…24 more days…but who’s counting right?  🙋🏻

All in all the last two weeks haven’t been that hard.  Couple of temptations but I got through them and gave myself a good pat on the back.

Below is a sum of my FitBit stats for the week…

I encourage all of you to get up and move this week….even if it’s a 20 minute walk or park in the last space at the grocery store.  Just get your bodies moving!

Cheerio!

  1. You are such an inspiration, woman!! Zumba twice a day 3 times a week? I’m happy if I get in two workouts some days, but they’re not usually two longer ones that involve cardio. You’re going to be so fit and feel great! Loving these Workout Wednesday posts! Keep ’em comin, T!! 💛

  2. I have heard that there is a particular combination of consonants in the word “hefeweizen” that can cause the human salivary glands to suddenly produce in Niagric amounts (hmm, Niagric, I think I just made up a word). Good on you for sticking to your guns. BTW, I hope you don’t mind if I Zumba vicariously through Workout Wednesdays. I’ve had so many arthroscopic surgeries on my knees that they put a freeway exit sign in the last time. Keep on keepin’ on!

  3. Wow well done you!! I’m with you on the no alcohol but slacking far behind on the healthy eating and exercise! I’m starting pilates next week, start small is my motto!! Good luck with it all, looking forward to hearing about your results!! #momsterslink

    1. Thank you doll! I am determined that 2016 is my year to get healthy! I haven’t quit drinking but will keep it limited to certain occasions …the first bring Super Bowl…that day I’m going to eat pizza and drink beer! Have to remember to reward yourself.

  4. I got back into my xbox fitness routine this week, I have started Tai Chi, Dance, and Mossa Fight. I thought I would be way more sore than I was but when I wasn’t I was pretty proud of that because of all the hiking I did over the summer and fall. Next week, my plan is add the Mossa weight lifting. Next month, I plan to add Extreme combat to the list. It’s an MMA style workout that I’m excited to start next month (can’t this month as it costs money and I already spent some money on myself this month so it is next month’s splurge. LOL!) I tried the fit bit thing but couldn’t really get into it. I have Fitness Pal that I use but I admit I don’t use it every day. I need to though. Glad you’re doing so great with the no drinking too! That’s awesome Trista!

  5. I have begun posting low carb recipes on my blog that you might enjoy. And I love to have salt and pepper chicken wings when I go out. (Yep lots of fat but fat is okay when you are low carb) Love the post as it reminds us we are all different and still the same. Great luck on your continuing healthy choices and thank you for being such a great Host.

    1. Thanks Donna! I feel so much better when I keep the carbs down but I do need some because I am working out so much. I will have to check out your low carb recipes and post them to my Pinterest healthy plan board. I just had a white bean salad I found and man was it delicious and super filling!

      1. Are you diabetic Donna? My blood tests came back borderline. I have diabetes in my family and I had gestational with all 3 of my pregnancies so I am very high risk. Just another reason I have chosen to try and get healthy!

      2. Yes type 2 but niw hat I am unable to do as much it was hard to control and I have always lived my fruit which sends sugars sky high. But now under control with this live style

      3. I have never been a sugar person but I love me some carby food which I am now trying to cut out most of them. I get really shaky if I don’t have any carbs and workout…so I try to stick to healthy carbs. It sucks getting older. I want to go back to the days when I could eat and drink whatever I wanted and never had to workout lol.

  6. Wow. Those fitbit stats are pretty impressive too. I would say you are a lady who deserves some dressing on her salad 😂. I tried Zumba on the Playstation Move but I couldn’t coordinate my limbs for even the ‘easy’ moves. I figured I might as well just put some favourite music on a jig about 😂 Well done you!

    1. Thanks…that was my best week yet….this week isn’t going as grand as I spent most of Tuesday sitting in the car. Most of the people in my Zumba classes have very little coordination but I say “who cares” as long as we are all doing something that’s what matter right?

    1. LOL. My husband works shift work…usually 5 on and 5 off…he worked out 2 of his 5 off and wonders why he’s huffing and puffing and feeling out of shape. I have just become a little obsessed as I am feeling the results and want to continue. Bathing suit season will be here soon and we are planning our family vacation this year at the beach. Hawaii is beautiful…been there a few times. Stick with your wife…she must be a smart woman who wants to keep her man around as long as possible.

      1. No she wants to make sure if it kills her, she takes me out too. We have seven days staying across the street from beach. I’ll be play with turtles and fish. The Snorkling will be an easy workout after this.

      2. I haven’t soaked in them since I hurt my knee last year. It does make you feel better. She uses some paste looking stuff Epsom salt, baking soda, coarse sea salt and enough hydrogen peroxide to make it stick together. After all the bubbling dies down, you will want the alchemy experiment done in a deeper than bathroom. Otherwise, the floor will have a bit of a clean spot surrounded by white paste that takes forever to remove. Some daughters pretend they didn’t notice. Boys will at least try to cover it up.

    1. In my Zumba classes there are a lot of hispanic girls…they are so energetic and have great coordination…I used to have much more coordination in my 20’s. Heck, I was even a cheerleader in high school and grew up in dance class but man it got lost somewhere after having babies lol.

  7. DM – sticking to an exercise program is challenging, to be sure. To make it even more challenging, often exercise makes you want to eat more when you know you need to control and count every calorie. Last summer, I trained for the Pan-Mass Challenge. When you bike 100 miles a week, you can eat a lot more and still be Okay. But afterwards, when winter sets in and it becomes too cold to ride a road bike – watching every calorie becomes crucial once again. Oh, I wish you good luck!

    1. Wow that’s an impressive challenge you conquered. I am patting myself on the back for finishing a one hour Zumba class and trying to get to the gym everyday. Before I had kids I had more time for the gym…I had 3 babies in 3 years and was in a fog for the next 5. Just in the last 6 month have I finally started to feel all the fog lift and start to focus on my own personal goals. Working out and eating right really does make me a better person to be around. I have small goals set for myself and each time I complete one I will reward myself. Thanks for the bout of good luck…I am determined to be a better me in 2016.

  9. Well done!!! And look at your Fitbit stats! That’s fantastic. Mmmm, this post is motivating me to do just a little better and not give in to Cheeseburger ahhh…I have given up beer a long time ago when I realised a beer belly is exactly what it is! I have been far too relaxed since Christmas. I have found that I can’t have lots of carbs too. I have substituted zucchini and carrot noodles for pasta and that works really well. Not sure if I’ll try Zumba — very uncoordinated. I remembered back in the day, doing step aerobics and trying hard to keep up LOL. It’s always good to have a cheat day too!

    1. I have tried cheat days in the past but I always end up falling off the wagon so this time I am trying something a little differently. Saving cheat time for special occasions. That’s why I’m looking forward to Super Bowl Sunday 👍🏼 I have loved beer and wine for as long as I remember but yes beer can really go right to the gut. My last bloodwork was borderline everything so it was time for me to make a health decision. 💌Trista

  10. Well done! Cutting everything out at once is hard, but I always feel if I’m going to do something, might as well go big 🙂 I would have been tempted to skip the dressing altogether and get the beer instead lol! Thanks for hosting #momsterslink

    1. Oh if I could only drink one beer than I would have. Problem with that watering hole is they are so good served in a frosty mug that the first one goes down so fast that one must certainly have another. Super Bowl Sunday is my reward day! And I can’t wait! Thanks for linking up Debbie 💌Trista

  11. I have been trying to live a much healthier lifestyle for the last year or so. I wake up at 4:45 at least days a week to head out to the gym and work really hard to eat right most of the time. I try to move at least #100milesmonthly. I even started a page on Facebook to encourage friends and friends of friends to do the same. I have yet to try a Zumba class, though I hear you can find all kinds of them on YouTube. Good Luck to you!!

    1. I actually just did some Zumba off YouTube tonight! There’s tons on there and even for beginners. My 6 year old was doing it along with me and we even stumbled upon a kids one. 100 miles a month is a huge goal! You go! I have a FitBit to keep me on track…I will have to see what my miles are at the end of January. 💌Trista

  12. I have started my healthy living/eating thing this year as well. I love the idea of doing zumba but am far too self concsious to go to a class (too many people makes me a very anxious dragon). My exercise of choice at the moment is walking xx #momsterlink

  13. Very impressive start to the year. I “fell off the wagon” – food truck not beer truck just before Christmas having been so good in the run up to the festive period. Just too much temptation around. You’ve inspired me to get back on.

    1. I had started before the holidays as well…even made it through Thanksgiving with only eating all the goodies on Thanksgiving day. Was still drinking though. So I just realized that if I was going to get serious about it I had to go full throttle. Good luck to getting back on track and thanks for linking with #momsterslink.

I’m doing a similar thing and trying to make this the year I finally get fit and healthy.
I’m too scared to go to a Zumba class, but I play it on the Xbox and have even bought a Fitbit too!

Hope it all goes well lovely!

    1. Oh you should try a class! Drag a friend. That’s what I did at first and then the next time I was comfortable enough to go on my own. I believe too it’s all about the instructor. I have one instructor in particular whose class I absolutely love. Her energy is amazing and makes me want to strive to have more energy myself. Thanks for popping over Laura! 💌Trista

  15. Wow, I’m impressed. You’re doing brilliantly. How are you getting so many steps in? I’m getting stuck on around 6,000 most days. I signed up for an Insanity class on Thursday. I guess it’s fitting as apparently I am insane.

    1. I try to get to the gym twice a day most days and Zumba class gives me 5000 steps just in one class. I have also been doing a lot of stuff around the house which keeps me moving too. I shoot for at least 10,000 steps a day….but am actually disappointed with myself if I don’t go over that lol. Plus I compete with other people on my FitBit app. I am very competitive and so is my bestie so between the two of us we keep each other motivated. Like seriously if she is ahead of me one day and it’s almost the end of the day I will pop in some P90X or find a workout of youtube and go to town! lol It’s becoming an obsession! Do you have a FitBit?

      1. Haha- that’s awesome. Wow 5000 for one class?! I’m competing with the Mummy as we both got cheaper versions of fitbit for Christmas but she rarely tops 5000 and so is easy to beat. Maybe I need some new competition.

      2. Well I am thinking that for next week I am going to do a challenge for anyone who has a step tracking device. Maybe I will do a twitter step it up kind of party and at the end of the day everyone has to take a pic of their stats and post them. A little healthy competition. You in?
