Revamp…It’s My New Year Word

revamp goals resolutions dream wish

I have been reading quite a bit of articles the past couple weeks about how and why making resolutions can often lead to failure.  Of course probably the most common resolution made is that of losing weight or exercising more.

Instead of making resolutions, I switched mine to goals.  Tiny goals that I would set up for myself and when I achieved each one, I would reward myself.  Then I read somewhere about coming up with a word that you want your new year to revolve around.

Therefore, I have chosen the word REVAMP.  The definition of revamp by way of Google is this…

Verb: give new and improved form, structure, or appearance to

Noun: an act of improving the form, structure, or appearance of something

This word describes every resolution decision, proposal, motion, target, objective, intent, wish, dream, aspiration, ambition, desire, plan, purpose, goal that I want to become of 2016.

I am not sure why this year I have decided is my year to revamp my life but something tells me it’s time.  Maybe that’s because I had 3 babies in 3 years time and for most of the last 6 years I have lived in a fog of pure and utter mommy mania.  Feeding them, bathing them, clothing them, scolding them, teaching them…repeat.images.jpeg  Not that I don’t still do some of that stuff… **has already scolded one about 3 times today**, but this is the year they will be 6, 5, and 4 and they have started to become more independent little people and less reliant on me.  No I am not sad about that.  Nope, not even a little bit.

I like the fact that on Saturday mornings my 6 year old can get the cereal and milk out and help his sister’s with getting some breakfast so that mommy here can get to sleep in….if even for an extra 30 minutes.  Sometimes I am awake but just like to be able to lay there and not jump up and get going right away.

They are all in school now.  Granted the girls are home before lunch but those few hours between 8 and 11:30 give me a chance to do whatever it is I feel like doing without dragging anyone along with me.  This makes mommy happy!200.gif

Part of me feels selfish for feeling happy wanting to finally do something for myself but the truth is by always doing for everyone else I was turning into quite the depressed and bitchy individual.  I have even become more of an introvert than what I used to be.  Is that even possible?

So what do I plan to revamp you ask?

Myself ~ I plan to get healthier, eat better, quit drinking so much, quit stressing about things I have no control over, learn to deal with the stress when it does rear it’s ugly head, have more compassion for the human race, revamp my attitude.  Except for the guy who still stands on the corner sidewalk at Wal-Mart…and now he even has an accomplice that stands there with him.  That guy I will just keep giving dirty looks to as I drive past him.  In case you have no clue what I am talking about…you can read all about that here.

My Home ~ We have lived in this house for almost 2 years now and you would think we have lived here for 20 with all the shit crap that has accumulated.  In our old house we had one linen closet ….yes one linen closet, and now we have 3 linen closets, a coat closet, and a very large storage closet and guess what???  THEY ARE ALL FULL!  Of what?  Hell I don’t even know but I plan to do something to revamp that!

There are also lots of walls in this house.  You would think that because I am a photographer they would be lined with framed photos and memories right?  Wrong.  But I plan to revamp those walls.

My Blogging ~ Since starting this blog I have never really had much of a plan for it.  I still don’t think I have a niche and I have come to terms with the fact that I am just going to blog about whatever brilliant idea pops into my head.  And over the next year plan to revamp a lot of my ideas.

So if you had one word to choose that would sum up your year for 2016….what word would that be?  Let me know in the comments.

  1. De-clutter! That is mine. I have started with the house. Working on the health and de cluttering my mind.
my blog is and will continue along the same line
The one thing I have changed with my blog is how I think about it. I no longer think about wanting it to be about the numbers, the stats but more about continuing to enjoy writing my blog. Yes I hope some find it informative or enjoy my stories but it is about Me loving what I do with it. I am thankful to followers and friends I have made through it and that us a bonus.

    1. Yes I invested in an electronic labeler and pretty much the entire clear bin storage dept at our local Wal-Mart and have been decluttering and organizing a little everyday. Today isn’t going so well as I can’t seem to get up from this computer and am loving the land of blogging. Oh well…at least I am still getting the laundry done lol.
It’s just great that you are still blogging Donna. I remember meeting you when I first came on the circuit through blogging 101 on wordpress and have enjoyed knowing you as a fellow blogger. I love that you have linked up with me now as sometimes that’s the only way I get to read some people’s blogs. 🙂

  2. I had a word but I forget it. LOL! Yeah, that’s how bad my memory is, especially when it comes to something I’ve been doing for the past three years. I know my word is related to me just continuing to improve my life, I just can’t remember the word. I like your word and I think it’s good that because your kids are getting more independent, that you start focusing on yourself. We moms all need our own “me time” and in that time we remember who we are beyond just being moms but we also reflect on how much being a mother has changed us. It’s remembering the old us but evolving into a much better us. At least, that’s how I see it:-)

    1. Exactly! I was a someone before I was their someone. I have just felt so much better since getting more organized, and exercising, I am sure the not drinking wine everyday is helping too. I think of the day I go back to work and I just know it’s going to seem so strange to me. Not sure if I am excited about that or not. I have another year and a half to decide lol.

      1. Exercise helps me with pretty much everything from energy to organization and motivation! It also helps me clear my head which is what I need sometimes to feel like myself, especially when I’ve been around my kids too much. Lol!

  3. Good plan. My goal to to do a bit more of what I always enjoyed before children – painting, writing. Being a bit more than someone’s mum 😉 Hence starting this blogging lark. I can only hope I have as much success as some of the lovely people whose posts I have read today on #justanotherlinky

    1. Welcome to the world of blogging! I have been here for over a year but only been serious about it for not quite a year. Meaning, I started my blog, then it sat for months and then suddenly one day I decided it was something to call my own. I have made myself a few different goals this year. But my biggest is to get on the healthy track which is what I was before having kids. Plus I want to be around to see them grow up. Thanks for popping over and saying hello 💌Trista, Domesticated Momster

  4. I love that your goals have a theme. It’s tough trying to come up with one. I keep coming back to wanting 2016 to be awesome but that’s a bit generic. I really can’t think of a better word though. To be honest, an improvement on last year would do me but that’s more than one word lol 🙂 Good luck with your revampings! #KCACOLS

    1. Thanks Debbie…I jus felt like the word fit into my momsterous lifestyle lol. I think people should always have goals and never stop trying to achieve them. I’ve just been in a haze for a long time and I finally am fighting to lift it. Thanks for popping over 🙂

  5. Awesome word! I’m so with you on the accumulation of junk too – we’ve been in even less time, about 18 months, and every nook and corner is crammed full of stuff. My goal this month is an early spring clean and clear out… wish me luck! 🙂 #KCACOLS

    1. Good luck Jess! I find that even things that I can’t bring myself to throw away…if I put them in a bin and label it then at least it’s organized chaos lol. We got rid of so much stuff when we moved to northern Nevada from southern Nevada. Like seriously a constructional sized container bin full of stuff. Only fitting what would go in the Uhaul truck we rented. I felt so good after we moved in and I had so much space that was empty. Now 2 years later I just don’t know what’s happened. I feel like because it’s stuffed into closets and drawers and I can’t see it that somehow it doesn’t exist …until of course I open the closet or drawer. Happy de-cluttering!

  6. I think we could possibly be the same person…although I am a couple of years behind you. I can’t wait until all three are in school! So I can put me first 6 hours a day, 5 days a week! And there’s nothing wrong with that! I too want to do lots of revamping this year (namely with the wine, must drink less wine!), but my word of this year has to be organisation! I have lots of plans for 2016 but without being organised I will never be able to spin all the plates at the same time. Good luck with your year of revamp lovely #justanotherlinky xx

    1. Thank you Clare! So far the no wine has really helped the weight loss as I am down 14 pounds since weighing myself on Jan 1. I find that when I don’t drink wine in the evenings I also don’t snack. But I do miss it from on certain nights. I am really trying to get more organized as well but it’s a slow process. Good luck to you as well and thanks for popping over. 💌Trista

  7. Hi Trista, I like your choice of word. Having a revamp conjures up visions of newness and changes. I’m not one for making resolutions, but I do like to set myself goals; daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and even lifetime goals (I want to be as fit and healthy as I can be when I’m old, without wishing I’d looked after myself better when I was younger).

It is amazing how much junk we collect. I wish decluttering had a longer lasting affect!

If I had three children so close together, I doubt I’d ever leave the house let alone blog! Good luck with the revamp. And I think I’d like my word this year to be ‘forward’, as I’d like to many things in my life to move forward.

    1. That is a good word as well! We should all continue moving forward and strive to be better than we were the day before. I didn’t really make my goals as resolutions either. I just decided that it was finally time to free my mommy cocoon that I had been in for so long and be the best me I could be in 2016. I have set up rewards for every little goal that is reached. My first being to eat and drink what I want on Super Bowl Sunday…unless of course my other goal of my first 20 pounds lost comes before that…then it’s new workout clothes as my reward. 💌Trista

    1. Thank you!!! It’s funny because as each day passes without consuming any junk food or alcohol it gets better. And I am now at the point that if I don’t go to the gym at least once a day I feel like poo. Thanks so much for hostessing!💌Trista

  8. This is a great word, I like it!! You have all the right to feel happy about wanting to have some “me time”. It is now the time. If I could get 30 more minutes in bed I would take them too. I feel so tired sometimes that I just need some “me time” ASAP. Sienna has been settling at nursery last week and apparently she will be ready to start properly next Monday so I’m so looking forward to that!! I need to get the most of that time!!! Good luck with your goals lovely!! All the best for 2016! Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS. I would love to see you again on Sunday! 🙂 x

    1. We are better mommies when we get some time to ourselves. My kids are old enough now that if I find a craft and sit them at the table to do it or just get out every creative item we have (except paint…paint has to be supervised) they will sit there long enough for me to have some peace to myself which is utilized in every way. The few hours I get in the morning are my gym time although on Fridays the girls don’t have preschool but luckily the gym has daycare for a few hours in the mornings so the moms can go to Zumba lol. Thanks for hostessing lovely. I will be there again on Sunday!

  9. What a fantastic post! So glad you linked up for my first ever linky cohost with the #FabFridayPost.

I love “revamp” and would totally steal it because it’s such a powerful word but I’ll go Elsa on my new year. Maybe I’ve been brainwashed by Disney after having watched Frozen so much but my words this year are “Let it go.” That goes for everything from family drama to keeping stuff because one-day-just-in-case-I-might-need-it. There are things I can’t change and I need to let go and put my focus on myself and my daughter.

    1. I went through the Frozen era also. That movie must have done a number on my 4 year old cause now she’s gone all out tomboy on my and wants everything super heroes and if any of her clothes had a spot of purple or pink on it she WILL NOT wear it. She really “Let It Go”.
I too need to let go of the family drama but I just feel like it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. You’re a great mom and don’t ever feel guilty for putting your daughter before anymore. Thanks again for inviting me to this fab linky!

      1. Here’s hoping my little one will let go of Frozen soon. At this point I will gladly buy her a whole new wardrobe and toys for a break.

Thank you for the kind words. Made my morning!

    1. I have been trying to get organized as well. It might take me all year and one drawer or cabinet at a time but this house will be organized when I am done and there will be a place for everything. Thanks so much for hostessing! I have you on my linky list now.
