One month in and 18 pounds lighter and I am finally starting to see some real results. Biggest being my energy level and the fact that I find it hard to sit still much these days.
I haven’t been able to get to the gym as much as I wanted this past week due to kiddos being sick and a couple other things throwing off my schedule but I just made sure not to consume as many calories as I do when I am working out harder.
And it’s been 27 days and still going strong without any alcohol. **hopes no one drops by and notices the kids duct taped to the wall** I have found that even passing the wine section in the grocery store isn’t phasing me anymore…haha yeah right! Did you actually take me seriously there? Pffft. You’re silly.
So I have a little idea in mind that I would like to run across anyone who is currently using a fitness tracker. I am a competitive person and do weekly challenges with a few friends who have FitBits. But I thought hey, why not do a little competition between some of my readers or fellow bloggers who have fitness trackers, doesn’t have to be a FitBit, can be any kind of fitness tracker. Here’s my idea….
It will start on Monday, Feb 8. (That will be the day after Super Bowl when I will be in a self induced food and alcohol coma so you will already have a head start on me) That gives you a week and a half to decide. Most fitness trackers have an app or they send you updates with your progress. Below is an example of what my weekly progress report looks like, that the app sends me via my email, but you can also take a daily screenshot of your results.
I would like to challenge anyone who is interested to do an entire week (feb 8-Feb 14) and see who of us has the most steps or miles at the end of the week. Each day snap your progress and send it to me either via Twitter(@DomesticMomster) or Facebook so I can keep track of who is winning and post everyone’s progress. On Monday, Feb 15 send me your final results and I will tally up to see who won. If you are up for the challenge please leave your twitter handle in the comments, message me on Facebook, or even email me at domesticatedmomster@gmail.com. Because a little healthy competition never hurt anyone. You would be surprised at how motivating competing can be. Are you in?
Last week my friend and I went to our normally scheduled Zumba class and at the end they threw us off by adding chairs to the routine. It’s called Zumba Sentao. Next I am just waiting for them to incorporate stripper poles into the program. I can assure you that no one in my class looked like the girl in the following video.
First of all I could not see anyone wearing high heeled boots in my class. Especially not me. I have a hard enough time standing up being coordinated with tennis shoes on.
The following is more the style of what went on in our class…only my instructor, Nora, has about 300 times more energy than this guy. It is my aspiration to be like Nora…someday.
If any of you have ever thought about trying Zumba I encourage you to check it out on YouTube. There are so many choices of free ones on there and I am telling you that it is a great cardio workout. I get close to 6,000 steps on my fitness tracker in a one hour class. And when I can’t fit the time into going to the class then I just find one on YouTube to follow. I even had my little monsters doing it with me.
Still not convinced? Well let me assure you that I used to think I had quite the moves back in the day when I would go dancing at the clubs. I caught myself in the mirror at Zumba the other day and realized it was the booze I was consuming on those nights that made me think I could dance. But I still love Zumba. And I am finding that the more I do it, the more I am getting the moves down.
Today I am going to check out a new class called Cardio Camp. I have no clue as to what it is but it has the word cardio in it…so I am there!
I am still shooting for my 90,000 steps in one week goal! I don’t care how long it takes me but I will get it one of these weeks!
Hope to see some of you for the challenge!
I am linking this post with the following fab linkys…
Wow! Lovely idea… will try download this fitbit app and hopefully I can join the fun especially being back from 2 weeks holiday with more pounds on. Lovely post! #bestandworst

You have to have a fitness tracker that you wear on your body (mine’s on my wrist) in order to download an app. 🙂

Love this post its so motivational! I got an I watch for Chrimbo and am slightly obsessed with the steps counter. It made me smile how I can now understand why I am so knackered at the end of every day! I have started running too this year and love the buzz of the endorphins afterwards. Keep going! #bestandworst

I had a few beers last night as we went to dinner with friends. But back on track today. I believe it’s ok to indulge from time to time just not over indulge.

I’d agree to that (but only drink to that in moderation). I’m toying with a stint of no drinking to get things back on track – it seems to have worked for you so that’s encouraging over here!

It has taken me 2 days to recoop. I went to Zumba this morning and my body was like you can’t eat and drink like that and then expect to have so much energy you dumb fool. Body point taken.

OK, now you have me *sort of* wanting to attempt Zumba. (I can’t even believe I’m saying this.) If you were here or I was there, there’s a chance I’d try that class with you and embarrass the heck out of myself. Seriously– no dancing skills here. It takes me forever to learn anything having to do with coordination– lol! I’m getting bored with my workout routine, and this would definitely be something different! I’ll think about taking your step challenge. Wish I had a fitbit. I think my hubby has a little pedometer lying around somewhere! xx

Well try and find it and join my challenge lady! Turn on some YouTubeand just check out a few of the Zumbas. There’s even ones for beginners! You can do it in the privacy of your home and you will love it …regardless of coordination…it’s just fun!

18 lbs in one month! Wow! You are doing amazing. I’ve lost 3 lbs in two weeks and I thought that was good. You’re such an inspiration.
My activity tracker arrived by the way but it’s a bit naff and so is the app. That’s what I get for buying a cheapie version, so I won’t be able to join in with linking up my weekly stats. Boo! I need to start saving for a fitbit.

You have inspired me to start my own weekly fitness check and I will be posting my first one tomorrow. I have fitness pal but I don’t know if it accurately records my steps. I can try it though and take snapshots and send them to you. I think a little competition is a great idea for motivation!

I just realized after reading your post again that you want to start on Feb 8th but you are tallying results on Feb 8th too. Do you mean the 15th? Just want to be sure I’m not confusing myself. LOL! Thanks so much for linking up with #manicmonday

If you do decide to get one go one I highly suggest the Charge…it’s a step up from the one I have which is the flex and the flex has served it’s purpose but I am really wanting one that shows me all my info without me having to pull it up in my app and I want it to keep track of my heart rate. They are coming out with a new one in March called “The Blaze” it looks like an apple watch. That will be right around my 3 month mark of working out which is what I said would be my reward for sticking to my goals. Thanks for hostessing lovely…so glad it is doing so well. 💌Trista

oh gosh I love this idea! But seriously I would loose hands down. I am actually getting better I have been walking more than ever, for example I walked from the toilet back to my computer several times today lol, no I’m joking I have ben walking more. Besides the usual daily run around I have been trying to walk outdoors for 2 kilometres each day and it feel great. I am also increasing my water intake and eating better. So although I could do more I am getting there.

The cutting out of wine every night and bad carbs was a big thing for me. Like I loved to drink an entire glass…I mean bottle of wine starting from the time I started making dinner and then finishing it off before bed along with whatever carby goodness I could find in the cupboard. And I actually loathe exercise but have fallen in love with Zumba and because I am lighter …the working out is becoming easier. Thanks for hostessing lovely. Please do send me an invite this week to remind me to link up again! 💌Trista

If you are scared about what to expect try it on YouTube first. It teaches a lot of the same moves that my instructors use in our classes. It’s so much fun! I hate when I don’t get to go.

Go you!! You’re so motivated, I am so not!! I’ve never tried Zumba but it does look like good fun! I’m not the most co-ordinated of people but anything that gets your heart pumping is doing something at least! Must try harder!! #mg

That’s what’s great about YouTube is you can do it in the privacy of your own home. But believe me there are lots of uncoordinated people in the classes I attend but we have so much fun!
