Surviving The First Day Of School

I wasn’t very happy when that alarm sounded at the crack of dawn.  And when I say “crack of dawn”  I mean like the light was barely coming through the blinds and the sun hadn’t come up over the mountain yet.

At first I didn’t know what the sound was.  I woke up thinking that one of my toddlers was surely going to be standing next to me with some new game they had wanted on their tablet making that hideous sound.   And just as I was about to tell them to turn it down I realized it was…

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL and my alarm was going off.

I don’t know what this guy is so upset about … 8:20 is sleeping in

It took me about 20 minutes to actually get out of my bed.  Took me 19 just to get my eyes to stay open.  As everyone is well aware…I hate mornings and truly believe that school should start at noon.

So I got myself up and ready and then went to wake the dragons.  Two of the three woke just fine, but my little M is like her mommy and really wished that school started at noon too.  And she wasn’t very excited about starting kindergarten in a new school after attending the same preschool for the previous year and a half.

I went to the closet and reminded her that she had a new Spider-Man shirt to wear to school and she quickly jumped out of bed and hopped in the shower.

The morning went smoothly.  Got everyone dressed, matching shoes and socks, hair combed, fed a good breakfast, lunches were packed and backpacks ready and out the door we went.

Don’t think that it will be like this all year people, because eventually there will come a morning where they will be eating pop tarts in the car with their hair barely brushed and be lucky if anything at all is matching.  Don’t judge me.  That’s just what I refer to as #momlife and I have many moments of it.

I thought that I might have a problem with my youngest, this year, being the only one being dropped off at daycare but she was super excited to go back to school and as soon as they said they had a new pet for the classroom she was off and running.  Sparkly light up shoes and all.  Never even looked back. *sheds tear*

Then it was off to the elementary school.  The chaos of the first day is just crazy.  Parents and kids everywhere.  I didn’t even try to get a close parking spot,  I parked up the street and my other 2 and I took a nice stroll.

Little M held my hand tight.  I knew she was so nervous.  Little B man of course zoomed like a pro.

I showed little M where she was supposed to line up and even got her to smile for the camera.  Something that she rarely does unless I catch her off guard.  The look on her face told me that she was going to be just fine.

Around 2pm I started to get really tired.  Like tired enough that I felt like taking a nap…and I never nap.

giphy-1.gif
This is literally what I looked like sitting in my chair…I haven’t shaved in a while.

And when I went to pick up the kids I realized that I had gone the entire day (including making it to the gym) without any CAFFEINE!  WTF?!?!?!

I was so busy that morning running around like a maniac that I had actually forgotten to consume any caffeine.  What mother in her right mind does that?  Yes, I know, I must not be in my right mind…news flash there.

So needless to say, it was too late in the day to consume any at this point and when 8pm rolled around, and I put the kids to bed, I crawled into bed too.

The last time I remember looking at the clock it was 9:30pm.  And I survived the first day of school without ever having a sip of caffeine.  GO FUCKING ME!🙋🏻

  1. You did good! Not one drop of caffeine? I am impressed!
We go back next Monday… My son starting Secondary School! And me embarking on my second year as a REAL TEACHER! My daughter is still at Primary in the school I teach at, but in a different year group.
I’m dreading my son leaving the safety of our school, but they gotta grow up, hey!

    1. Thanks lady! We almost have the first week down and my biggest problem is that my husbands days off usually fall during the week so then he wants to stay up late and I am like…nooooooo I need my sleep….I have to get up. He’s horrible at getting up. He thinks a 4,5, and 6 year old should be able to get themselves all ready to go and all we have to do is drive them to school. 😁

      1. Hah! Pretty sure my husband thought the same thing when mine were younger. I go away for a conference every fall so he gets a good feel for what it actually takes to get them out the door every morning (although he almost always forgets stuff and I get the calls/emails from the teachers while I’m gone). He’s usually a little more appreciative when I get back. Hahaha

      2. Yeah maybe I need to do that. He asked me yesterday if he could go to Boston with a buddy to see like a week’s worth of Red Sox games and I said sure…as long as next year I can go to BML17 in London and visit a few other places while I’m there. He didn’t look very excited about that trade.

  2. I know the feeling well! Except I have several little ones to get out the door in the morning but luckily majority of their stuff arrives with them! My three children are good in the mornings! They just arrive home hyper! We still have until next Monday over here in the UK to make the most of our summer! I have to admit though, I am looking forward to getting back to school.

      1. Lack of sleep is always a bad point in this house, kiddies don’t sleep we all get it the next day! Strops, tantrums and moods! That’s just the teenager!

I’m loving your little awards photo scrolling widget! Is that what it’s called? I’m going to get me one of them one day! Very nice awards to have!

    1. One week down and we are all still alive. It’s been a four day weekend and we went to see a professional baseball game which I am sure I will be blogging about. Your school starts at 7am!!!! That is ludicrous! I would never survive. I am a night owl and on rare occasions might go to bed before 10 but not often. Thank again for hostessing!

  3. Well done you for rocking the first day of school! Your crew are so cute – and so well dressed! We are lucky that they wear uniforms to school so it’s the one outfit without having to get things matching. I too hate the morning alarm, it’s cruel! I hope your kiddies have a really great school year. #effitfriday x

    1. We made it through the first week. I was worried about my 5 year old as it’s a new environment for her but it helps that she gets to see her older brother throughout the day as their classrooms are right next to each other and they see each other at lunch. I think all schools should just switch to uniforms. It would cut down on a lot of pettiness. Thanks for popping over and reading and commenting. I am behind as usual.

  4. Yayy! Well done you for surviving the first day back!! I am dreading this week and having to get four of them up and out the house by 8.45! We’ve been sleeping in so late, I’m not sure we will be able to prise our eyes open! I’m sat here with a list of jobs to do, sewing on the name labels being one, acting like I have all the time in the world! I’m not sure I’m going to rock the first day back as well as you did! ‘#kcacols

    1. I just used a black sharpie for the things that I think may get confused. The funny thing is my 6 and 5 year old didn’t want character backpacks. They both picked out adidas ones just different colors. But I still put there names in them anyway. Thanks for popping over and reading and commenting!

  5. ooh dreading my eldest starting school this week. I’ll be the one trying to park the giant car and wrangle my two youngest into a double buggy. At least we have uniforms (in UK) so will always match – provided I remember to wash the uniforms of course! Thanks for sharing this for a giggle 🙂 #KCACOLS

    1. I always try to keep up on the laundry as my kids need clothes to wear to school and their sports attire clean every week. But this doesn’t always mean folded and put away. Many times it’s digging through clean clothes baskets to find what we need and loving the steam fresh button on my dryer. Thanks for popping over and taking the time to read and comment.

  6. What no caffeine? But how? I mean like HOW? I find the nursery run traumatic enough and that’s just with one of them, and it’s nursery (and so perfectly acceptable to rock up with them still in their PJs having not had any breakfast if the morning just happens to go that way). You are clearly a Goddess and I salute you! Loving the Spider Man T-shirt too 🙂 x

    1. Next year all 3 I will be able to just drop off without going in. I’m so looking forward to the fact that I myself will be able to just wear my pajamas for drop off lol. She’s Spider-Man obsessed and her little sister is only 11 months younger, is completely opposite.

  7. NO Caffeine! Even Little Miss OMG is starting to learn to stay away from Daddy till I’ve had at least one cup of coffee.

We’re 4 days in and the little 2 are still up and into uniforms with smiles on their faces.

The eldest thinks school should be an optional choice and has to be dragged in every day!

Def rocking the first day of school look.

  8. Well done you. I don’t drink coffee but get my caffeine hit from (far too much) chocolate and could not have survived without it today. Every morning during the holiday I have been up way before the time I need to get up on school days. This morning was the first day of term and you guessed it, I slept in! Not a great start but I did manage to get him their on time thankfully. #AnythingGoes

    1. I never sleep good on school nights because I am always worried that I won’t hear the alarm or for some reason it will not go off because let’s face it sometimes shit like that just happens. Today one of my littles was awake before the alarm *rolls eyes* she doesn’t understand that those 20 extra minutes for mommy mean a lot lol. Thanks for popping over and reading and commenting and reminding me that I still need to get over there and do the same.

    1. Yes I do like my little drive through coffee place that is conveniently located on my school run, but it gets costly if I go there everyday so I try to keep it to only a couple times a week. One of the girls there knows me and kindly puts 4 shots of expresso in whatever coffee concoction that I am purchasing :)) Thanks for popping over and reading and commenting!

  9. You made it! Hope it wasn’t followed by the blinding headache of caffeine withdrawal!

My cubs would be jealous of going to school in civvies. My eldest starts tomorrow and we’ve got to get her uniform ready for the mandatory doodle door step photo!

    1. I live on caffeine in the mornings. Sometimes it’s coffee and sometimes it’s an energy drink. Have no clue how both got forgotten except that I was running on pure adrenaline being the first day of school. Thanks for popping over and reading and commenting.

  11. Luckily my wife takes care of getting our daughter off to school the majority of the time. I can’t believe you did all that without at least 6 espresso shots and a cup of coffee though. Congrats on getting by without it. We all know caffeine is synonymous with parenthood.

    1. I guess I was just so hustled by the first day of school that I didn’t even notice that morning. Wasn’t until I started wanting to crawl in my bed and sleep later that afternoon, after the adrenaline had wore off, that I realized it.

  12. We’ve been back at school since the 1st September. My youngest child has started Reception and I don’t go back to uni for another week so I don’t know what to do with myself – oh yes, I will be decorating my bedroom lol. 🙂 It’s a great achievement with no caffeine! Thanks for linking up #AnythingGoes

    1. We are down two weeks now and I feel like I am in a routine. We also have soccer practice Tues, Wed, and Thurs evening and then games on Saturdays so it really only leaves Sundays as my pajama days now. I am really behind in my commenting and will be over in a bit to comment on #AnythingGoes. Thanks so much for hostessing.

    1. Our Keurig broke and we are waiting for a trip to the city to buy a new one at Costco. No coffee and it’s been cooler in the mornings which is when I really like it. Summer time I usually drink the energy drinks ice cold. I also like 5 hr energies. They are great right before I hit the gym…so I won’t look like that cat anymore lol. Thanks for taking the time to read, comment, and link up *muah*

    1. Luckily I’m usually headed to the gym after dropping them off so all I have to do is throw on gym clothes and brush my teeth and that’s the extent of my getting ready👍🏼 And I’m sure as the school year goes on they will go with either hair not combed or teeth not brushed or both perhaps.😂
