Throwback Thursday ~ A Housewife’s Wardrobe

As I was hanging up my clothes today I started to think to myself that my wardrobe is just not as cute as it used to be.  Yes I have managed to hang onto some of the cute stuff but rarely do I find myself wearing it.  My closet has become full of what I would call a housewife’s wardrobe.

The majority of my laundry consists of sweats (Old Navy sweats are my favorite), t-shirts that are dated back to the pregnancy with my first child…not to mention they look even older after being washed and warn what seems like a gazillion times, and sweatshirts…the ones that I throw upon myself to rush to the grocery store.  Oh and lets not forget my lovely go to yoga pants…comfy doesn’t get any comfier then a washed and warn pair of yoga pants.  Unfortunately they have never seen the light of day of a yoga class.

I have also found a love for cameos.  Nothing fancy, Kirkland brand from Costco.  But I wear them under EVERYTHING.  Sometimes I feel like it’s just one step closer to wearing “spanx”.  Although I just don’t see how something squeezing every ounce of cellulite could be anywhere near comfort. And where does all the fat go?  And what happens when you take it off?  Isn’t that kind of like false advertisement?  Like the wonder bra and wonder jeans, where one wonders what happened when they are removed.  Of course that only applies to people who are dating, I suppose.  As “married with children” women we have had everything on display already.

Now mind you I have come a long way in motherhood with my wardrobe.  Long gone are the days that I would get dolled up to leave the house and inevitably one of the babies would spit up and I didn’t have time to change.  Nothing like sitting somewhere smelling like soured breast milk.

I complain to my husband about my wardrobe and of course he tells me to go out and buy some new clothes.  But for what? I don’t go anywhere that requires anything more then my current “mommy wear”.  And for our occasional date nights I have a few pairs of jeans and “nice” tshirts for those outings.  I mean seriously am I going to clean the house and attend to the children in fancy clothes?  I am sure there are mothers that do so but as for me I have never been much of a fashionista so why start now?  I would rather spend my money on something more rational…like wine.  **smiles**

Unknown-1

We live in a small town…you know the kind where some people can’t even get out of their pajama bottoms to go to the grocery store.  I am quite certain our local Wal-Mart is on a YouTube video somewhere.

I have some really cute pajama pants but I am not about to wear them out in public…unless of course I don’t need to get out of the car…then it’s acceptable.  I say this because once my kids start school I know that I am going to be one of those mom’s dropping my kids off with my pajamas and slippers on.  I am NOT a morning person what so ever and the fact that I will have 3 of them to get ready at the crack of dawn, that just doesn’t leave time for me to worry about what I look like.

Even at 10am this is what I still look like.

UPDATE:  I go to the gym after dropping off the kids these days so I am usually dressed the part…but on Fridays my littlest one doesn’t go to preschool so therefore the other two are dropped off with my pajamas on.  Don’t judge.  I don’t have to get out of the car.

I have also started hating to wear bras…mind you I will not go out in public without one on but as soon as I get home it’s the first thing to come off.  My “girls” don’t like to be all bunched up in a wad.  I mean could you imagine if men had penis bras?  Or had to go everywhere wearing a jock strap?  We would never hear the end of how uncomfortable that was.  Well I feel the same way about my boulder holder.  Therefore when I am home, it is off.  **feels sorry for the random people who come to the door**

Truth is I am a stay at home mom/housewife and I enjoy dressing the part.  Let’s face it…who wouldn’t like to be able to go into work everyday with messy hair and comfy clothes?  My kids don’t care what I look like.  All they care about is that mommy is here to take care of their every need.  The only thing they notice is when I have morning breath and they tell me to brush my teeth.  My son tells me I am beautiful even when I look like a train wreck.  And lucky for me my husband likes the “natural” me.  Meaning a little eyeliner and mascara and although I have long hair it is usually up…and I am ok with it.  I am more comfortable with me now than I was in my younger years.  So to all you moms out there who wonder if your wardrobe has gotten a bit on the frumpy side just remember that as long as your kids are happy who cares if your shirt has a hole in it?

UPDATE:  I wrote this piece when I first started my blog.  I have since purchased some new clothes and actually because this year I made a decision that I was going to promise to myself to get in shape I will be purchasing some more clothes.  Something about losing weight and feeling healthy on the inside makes you want to look better on the outside.  But I still love my pajama days…which is usually only Sundays these days.

  1. I absolutely love this post. I’m no longer working and I find myself only wearing pajamas all day now that I rarely leave the house. And with grocery delivery, I’ve become a shut in. I better be careful or I’ll run out of friends!

  2. Haha this made me laugh. I always look forward to the end of the day when I can take off my bra and put on my PJs. As for spanx, I do often wonder where all the fat goes? Surely it as to bunch up somewhere?? I have definitely started dressing for comfort over style, today I bought a fleece, like something my Nan would wear, but it was so lovely and warm I couldn’t resist!! Thanks for hosting! #momsterslink

    1. There are some days that I don’t even have time to shower out of my gym clothes. Sometimes I justify it by telling myself that I am just going to take a long hot epsom salt bath that night. But I seriously live in a type of town that jeans and t-shirt is considered dressing up. I love fleece! I bet it’s so comfy! Thanks for linking sweets.

  3. My wardrobe consists entirely of jeggings in a variety of colours and shades. These are paired with anything long enough to cover my bum. Job done. Oh but I love a pyjama day with a capital 💜! Sounds like a fab wardrobe to me! Thanks for hosting #momsterslink x

    1. I seriously live in my gym clothes most days but I do try a few times a week to shower, do my hair, and wear something decent from my closet. But Sundays are my one and only days I have nothing on the calendar to do and yep I pretty much wear my pjs all day…shower…and put clean pjs on for bed lol.

  5. I am currently having a debate about clothes. With both myself and Husband. After babies and weight gain/loss my clothes just don’t feel right anymore, everything I own is either too tight/lose/stretched in weird places. The thing Is I almost never spend any money on myself… I seem to have an aversion to it, like i’m being wasteful/selfish. husband insists I treat myself… sigh… I think I’ll start small, a couple pairs of jeans and t-shirts maybe… xx #momsterslink

    1. I am the same way!!! Hate to spend money on myself. I always would rather spend it on my kids or doing something with the fam like all going out to eat. Hell I would rather not have to cook then have new clothes lol. My husband bought me a gift card one year to a clothing store so I was forced to actually buy some new stuff. Once I hit my goal weight I have promised to get some new things.

    1. Next year I won’t have to get out of the car. This year my little one is in preschool and I have to get out and take her in. Granted there are still some mornings I roll in there half dressed for the gym…like I have on my gym clothes but then flip flops because it was either brush my teeth or put shoes and socks on…teeth wins lol.

    1. I have actually given up the underwire bras as well. I used to buy them from Lane Bryant but now I just keep them around in case we have a “date night” otherwise I love the non-wired support bras that they sale at…none other than…Wal-Mart…thankks for linking up!

  6. If I could just stay in my pj’s all the time or my yoga pants all the time, I would. Though I do still like to get dressed up every now and then in jeans and boots, lol! Thanks so much for hosting another great week of #momsterlink Trista

    1. I am just always on the move during the day, it’s gym, come home do a bit of blogging, go pick up littlest one from daycare and then come home and clean. Am I going to do that in jeans? Hell no…that’s too uncomfortable. Thanks for linking up lady!

    1. I used to always wear the underwire bras…even wore them to bed all through my teens, twenties, and thirties. It wasn’t until after I got pregnant with my first that I realized bras sucked! But I too still wear them. Just not to bed. Thanks for linking up.

  7. I think there is a lot in being okay with ourselves. Our society is very image conscious but as I have got older I can’t be bothered with all that. Other people can think of me what they like, I just want to do what feels right for me. Oh and you are so right the kids don’t care what we look like. Great post. #momsterlink

    1. It’s funny because the older I get the less I care as well. You either like me for my winning personality or forget it lol. Thanks for linking up. I am way behind in commenting but I promise I will get around to reading, commenting, and sharing 😉

  8. I can sympathise on so many levels! Once the front door is shut for the night off comes the bra – can’t stand the things. And I work from home so it’s sweat pants and t shirt for me – can’t beat comfort!

  9. I love this post – it’s so real! If I didn’t go to work I would never get “dressed.” I do love the surprise on everyone’s faces when I do get “dressed up.” And I also have lost some weight lately and I want new clothes but I hate shopping. Nothing fits me right, but that’s a complaint for another day. I enjoy these real-life posts.

  10. Ha ha, my husband always says Spanx is like false advertising! Although I can totally understand why people wear them, especially those in the public eye who will be scrutinised and torn apart by the media. I’m definitely a jeans a hoodie kind of mummy and only ever wear makeup and blow dry/ straighten my hair for special occasions (which are rare), luckily hubby prefers the natural look!

    1. You always look so cute when I see you! We have the exact same body type so I can sympathize on hating to clothes shop when nothing fits right. Everything is made for big butts these days. Like hello could I get something that fits my boobs over here but doesn’t make me look like a pregnant person. Thanks for linking up!

      1. Well thanks, I think the same about you. Not to mention that you look awesome in a hat. I feel my face is too round for a hat. Lol. I hate that nothing fits my boobs. Someday I hope to get a reduction…or do you think if I lost a ton of weight they’d be the first to go?

  11. Hahaha…penis bra! Now that would be something. I love my housewife clothes – it’s so comfy to be just me and hey, as long as you’re not getting out of the car, you should be able to wear what you want right? #momsterlink

  12. I live in a tracksuit and dobok (taekwon-do suit) all week, so my wardrobe is festering away. When I do have to put on some real clothes, I resort to the same pair of jeans and the same top. I am so dull! Alison x #momsterslink

  13. Is it bad that there are days when I wear my PJ’s all day? (to be fair they are bought for wearing round the house rather than in bed). I dont have ‘going out clothes’ just my normal every day stuff. Leggings, jersey dress and a cardigan of some sort (weather dependant) is my go to uniform these days.
