10 Things You Should Know Before Having 3 Kids ~ Guest Post

I was contacted by Crystal at Baby Follow  to host a guest post about having 3 kids.  And since I have 3 kids and can relate to a lot of this I was of course delighted to have her.

Take it away Crystal…

10 Things You Should Know Before Having 3 Kids

Three kids seem to be the perfect number for most couples ñ small enough to keep it manageable but big enough to keep family outings interesting. After Iíve become a mother to 3 kids however, I realized that having 3 of them is NOTHING like having just 2.

Donít get me wrong ñ all my kids are well-loved and cared for! Still, it can be quite shocking to find yourself having 3 little troopers in the house, all under the age of 7! If youíve recently got a 3rd child or planning to have a 3rd one, hereís one housewife advice to another.

1. Sexy Time

Sex pretty much dries up or must be planned like a military operation because for some reason, the kids never synchronize their absence. At least one is always in the house, needs attention, needs food, crying for water, or needs to have monsters in the closet shooed away. Even if youíve got time at night, youíre pretty much too tired to do anything with the hubby.

2. Invest on Distractions

Itís time to get the good baby swing! Thereís nothing quite like a good distraction that lets you do all those little things you used to take for granted ñ like going to the bathroom. It is essential to get the good baby swing as it distracts your youngest and lulls him to sleep quickly. Iíve figured out that once my youngest goes to sleep, the other two are easier to manage.

3. Quiet is Suspicious

Need I say more? Noise is practically a signal of normality in the household. Once everything goes quiet, itís a sure sign that something is wrong.

4. It Takes a Village

tarafleishman.files.wordpress.com
With two kids, I was still Supermom. I could handle my two boys without asking for help. With the 3rd however, Iíve accepted the ìit takes a villageî adage and called for help, usually from the grandparents.

5. Mess is Endless

Even as you pick something up, something new gets thrown on the floor. The mess never really ends with 3 kids ñ and this includes the laundry! Iíve basically placed a huge box on the living room and told my kids to throw anything in there so I can sort them out later and the floor stays clean!

6. Zumba and Other Exercises

Zumba and Other Exercises
http://www.healthline.com
As a stay at home parent, most of my exercises are done through the television. Thatís not possible anymore with 3 active kids. On the plus side, you can get more physical workout just running after your toddlers ñ but this is an all day job! For some reason, theyíre on a schedule when it comes to energy source so that when one is recuperating their energy, the other one is at full speed. A postpartum girdle is a best choice if youíre feeling a bit of strain along your belly area, especially if youíve had a C-section. Wearing this actually helped me get my shape back!

7. Nothing is Constant

What worked for my first two doesnít seem to work with the 3rd when it comes to sleeping time, eating, and play. Hence, I had to change strategies ñ which are a lot like being a brand new parent all over again! Take nothing for granted and be ready to adapt!

8. Helicopter Parenting

With one or even two kids, you could be more involved. For example, Iíd actually help my little girl and boy to pick out their clothes for the day and help them in it. With the 3rd however, Iíve switched to helicopter parenting. It basically means hovering where I simply go check to see if theyíve done what theyíre supposed to do and move on. Although you might want to be involved in every step of their daily life ñ it just becomes impossible!

9. Teach Early

With two kids, my husbandís strategy was divide and conquerí as each of use gets a kid. With the arrival of the 3rd however, this strategy no longer works. I dread the day when our youngest would be able to walk and therefore ñ run. This is why as early as 2, weíve been teaching our middle child how to act and respond when weíre in public in the hope that self-discipline will work its magic.

10. Yes ñ You Will

Lastly, accept that youíre going to mess up ñ itís part of being a parent to 3 active children! Just keep in mind that pretty soon, your kids are going to turn into teens so itís best to relish these moments while you can.

Of course, those are just few of the skills new parents need to learn how to care for their kids. Remember: adapt as you go because no two kids are ever the same, but youíll love them anyway!

Role Of Diet In Skincare: 8 Best Foods For Your Skin (Guest Post)

I was contacted by Sarah Smith with FixYourSkin.com and asked if she could write a guest post about the…

Role of diet in skincare: 8 best foods for your skin

I for one am all about skin care and gladly accepted the request…take it away Sarah…

I’m sure you would have tried every lotion and cream on the market to soothe your skin woes. Even I did the same when those pesky pimples showed up. It improved my skin for a short period but didn’t work out in the long run.

I’ve always heard the saying “You are what you eat” So I gave it a shot and was quite surprised by the results. I got the glow I’ve always wanted!

It’s true that the beauty industry has countless solutions for your skin problems. But, nothing can come close to getting beautiful skin naturally.

I understood later that applying lotions and creams externally won’t nourish the skin from the inside. This is why most treatments offer temporary results.

Here are some powerhouse foods, which when consumed on a regular basis will help you get a gorgeous, healthy and glowing skin.

  1.    Almonds

Almonds are loaded with vitamin E and are one of the best sun blockers. Vitamin E in almonds protects your skin from harmful UV rays and other factors that damage your skin. It also helps in the maintenance of healthy hair and teeth. It is advised that you soak the almonds overnight before consuming to eliminate the toxic chemicals present in its coating. So don’t forget to take 7-8 almonds with your morning breakfast.

  1.    Carrots

This crunchy vegetable which has a delicious flavor contains antioxidants and an abundant amount of vitamin A. They’re also rich in vitamin C which helps in the production of collagen, a protein required to maintain skin elasticity. Drinking carrot juice regularly will contribute to getting rid of scars and blemishes. Also, carrots are a rich source of potassium, which helps to keep your skin hydrated. This makes it apt for people with dry skin. You can also refer fixyourskin.com to know about the vitamins that help to keep your skin healthy.

  1.    Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are one of the healthiest foods that also hold a permanent place on the Thanksgiving menu. The skin of these potatoes is loaded with beta carotene. It is an antioxidant, which the human body converts to vitamin A. Beta-carotene fights the free radicals in the skin which is one of the reasons for aging. These potatoes are also an excellent source of iron, and they are highly recommended for people who don’t consume meat.

  1.    Walnuts

This nut is packed with omega-3 which makes your skin glow. The fatty acids present in it help to improve skin elasticity, reduce skin inflammation and protect skin from harmful UV radiations. Vitamin E is also present in walnuts which will make your skin smooth and speed up healing. Also, the presence of vitamin B7 will strengthen your hair and improve its growth.

  1.    Tomatoes

Tomatoes not only taste good but also keep your skin healthy. Tomatoes have lycopene, an antioxidant which works as a sunscreen from within. They are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin K, which are some of the ingredients used in acne-fighting products. If you want to control acne and excessive oiliness just mash a tomato and apply the pulp on your face. Leave it on your face for 15 minutes and wash off with water.

  1.    Green tea

These days’ people of all over the world consume green tea due to the numerous health benefits associated with it. Drinking green tea regularly will improve the complexion of your skin, flush out toxins and heal blemishes. First off eggs have two parts- yolk and white both of which are beneficial for hair and skin. Egg yolk nourishes and strengthens your hair. The whites have a significant amount of Vitamin A and collagen which helps to treat scars, wrinkles, and acne. When you apply egg white on your face regularly, it will tighten the skin, improve its texture, and smoothen it. Also, the iron content in eggs will provide your skin with fresh oxygen required for proper functioning.

(Guest Post) 7 Tips For All To Maintain Their Health And Good Dental Hygiene

dental health hygiene teeth

Recently I was contacted by Joel Cordle over at hillcountrypdo.com to do a guest post about taking care of our pearly whites!  Since I am all about my dental hygiene, I of course said YES!

Take it away Joel…
What is the importance of hygiene to our health? The answer is simple. Hygiene and health is interdependent that one cannot complete exist without the other. The saying “cleanliness is next to godliness” further solidifies that idea. Maintaining cleanliness with your body and with your surroundings is an integral way to stay healthy. Apparently, exercise and the right diet is not enough.
We all learned the basics of hygiene since kindergarten, so allow us to give you a review on those simple and (what should be) regular routines for us. Here are 7 tips for everyone on how to maintain health and good dental hygiene.
Wash hands frequently.
Hand-washing is the first and most basic rule to maintain hygiene. Every minute, our hands are exposed and attacked by millions of germs and bacteria that can affect our health. Washing our hands frequently can prevent these germs from spreading.
Take a bath regularly.
Although the rest of your body is not exposed to germs as much as the hands are, your body still needs regular cleaning to remove any germs that accumulated around it. Taking a bath regularly is an important way to maintain hygiene.
Brush teeth at least twice a day.

dental hygiene health dentist orthodontist wash hands
As what all orthodontist and dentists will tell you, to ensure that your dental health stays in shape, you should brush at least two times every day – once in the morning when you wake up and once at night before you sleep. Brushing the teeth is the first step to maintaining a good dental hygiene.
Clean your tongue.
The tongue is exposed to many types of bacteria, germs and all the food you eat all day. You will notice that your tongue’s color will change with the color of the food you eat. Maintain your dental hygiene by cleaning your tongue regularly by using your toothbrush (brush gently) or your finger.
Use mouthwash.
Apparently, brushing and cleaning your tongue is not enough to make sure that your dental hygiene is completely maintained. There are areas in your mouth that toothbrush bristles cannot reach and can only be cleaned by liquid cleaning agents. This is where a mouthwash will come in handy. Use mouthwash after brushing your teeth to flush out the remaining bacteria in the mouth.
Keep your nails clean.
Nails are also a representation of our hygiene. Not to mention, dirty nails will risk you to ingest bacteria when you eat. Make sure that you always cut your nails or clean off the dirt that is collected in your nails.
Know the specifics of proper hygiene for men and for women.
Hygiene, especially for our genital areas, is different between men and women. Know the specifics and basics in cleaning your private parts to prevent bacteria-caused illnesses and to maintain proper hygiene.

Awareness and practice of the simple acts that can maintain our health and dental hygiene can go a long way for us. Be sure to always prioritize your personal hygiene to prevent illnesses and to stay healthy and happy.

Guest Post ~ Teach Your Kids The Art Of Resistance To A Bad Diet

Teach Your Kids the Art of Resistance to a Bad Diet ~ by ~ Mackenzie Fox

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the past 30 years childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents. Being overweight can’t only harm your child’s health such as increase the risk of diabetes 2 and heart disease, but it can also take a heavy emotional toll of being overweight or obese. And the major culprit is – junk food.

Before the far reaching effects of our children’s unhealthy eating patterns continue into adulthood, turning us into a universally obese nation, it’s about time we start acting responsibly toward ourselves and our family. As Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

In an age of an all-pervading obesity crisis, being a mother can be tough. Commercially prepared and packaged food loaded with empty calories and flavor enhancing additives lurks from every supermarket shelf, TV ad and fast food restaurant chain. Although snacking on chips, cookies, cheese puffs and candy bars may seem as innocent as the adorable eyes of your little angel, the truth is far less palatable than you’d think.

As I am writing this, I am in between my meals, snacking on a handful of dried apples. Not only am I trying to reduce my daily calorie intake, but I am also setting an example for my little ones. Instead of gorging myself on vanilla ice cream and chocolate chip cookies, I’ve opted for a more nutritious (and less mouth-watering, I do admit) alternative. So, as a parent, what else can you do to help your children avoid the trap of eating junk food and becoming overweight, unhealthy and unhappy in the long run?

Youngsters need your help to develop healthy eating and drinking habits. When choosing your groceries, take a kid friendly approach. Actively involving your kids in the shopping process and meal preparation is a great way for them to learn the basics of healthy eating. Instead of reaching for the much loved salty snacks and a can of soda, teach them how to select a fresh looking pineapple or tomato and let them help out in the kitchen. Simple tasks such as washing lettuce or stirring a meal will make them feel involved and more motivated to eat.

Good habits are as addictive as bad habits, but much more rewarding. Therefore, make a habit of celebrating healthy foods and eating together as a family. Kids love the routine! Don’t get your child become distracted with watching TV while eating – turn it off. By sticking to regular meal times and sitting together at the dinner table the kid will feel more inclined to eat whatever is on their plate. If the kids see you eating a suspiciously looking new vegetable, eventually they will be prompted to do the same.

But don’t expect any drastic change to happen overnight. If your little one is a picky eater who perceives raw tomatoes as wet, slimy and disgusting, be consistent, but flexible and creative. Try dipping them in an oil free sauce or serve a tomato juice instead. With children’s fear of the unknown, introduction of new foods takes time and some skill. As the saying goes, Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon does. Cultivate your child’s curiosity and encourage them to try new foods by simply having them available.

Whatever the approach, do not pressurize your child into eating new foods only because you know they’re healthy and nutritious. Instead, be patient, and let them try on their own. In the meantime, be as informative as you can about the health benefits and importance of eating a well balanced meal. Eventually, your kids will learn to accept that eating is about meeting long term goals, not short term satisfaction.

In the face of a growing obesity crisis, teaching your children how to eat healthy is the best way of investing in them and their carefree future. Creating healthy habits, not restrictions is about eating a variety of fresh, wholesome and nourishing foods with an occasional takeaway or energy dense dessert. As Thomas Edison once wisely predicted: The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.

Guest Post ~ Are You Dating A Man Child?

I was contacted by the lovely Tracey Clayton quite some time ago about agreeing to hostess a guest post from her on my blog.  I have never done a guest post before, but thought to myself…sure why not?  Then the holidays came and somewhere in the midst of hundreds of emails…her guest post got lost.

Well I am happy to say that I found it and without further a-do…here is her thoughts on “Are You Dating A Man Child?”.

man-child men humor commitment guest post

Are you dating a man or a man-child?

Men are curious creatures. It takes time for a boy to become a man. But when we perceive our partner as a man, and he turns out to be more of a boy, than we have a man-child on our hands. inner child man humor And although having a playful man, who is in touch with his inner-child, can really spice-up the relationship, having an immature person take up your time and effort is extremely exhausting. That’s why you should always look for signs in his behavior whether or not he is a keeper.

Manning -Up to Commitment

A good relationship implies that you both grow together and as individuals. Ladies night out is always a nice change of pace for any woman, it goes the same for guys. But, if things are reversed and he only has room for you, when his boys are unavailable, then you are dealing with a man who fears commitment. A quality man always sets his priorities towards you, knowing that you are okay with him going out with his friends, but only once in a while.

Is Mother Best Really?

When it comes to the relationship with his mother, watch out for signs of a mama’s boy. If he had no independence, and mom was the one to do everything well into his manhood, then he’s still a teen at best. And you should be careful, since you are surely going to be compared to her. Everything from your cooking, cleaning, clothes, and even looks (hair included!), will be a topic for comparison. Not only that, but there’s a realistic chance that he will want to pass his mother’s role down to you. And if you don’t want to be treated as second best, and be the only adult in the relationship, moving on may be the right coarse of action.

A Financial Rock

I don’t know about you, but I like my men strong, and financially independent. This means two things: he is successful, and he has a budget to live by. With no strings attached, both of us can share in on adventures, caring more about the time we spend with each other, than who will pick up the check.financial independence men humor It’s perfectly fine for me to treat my man once in a while to a couple of drinks, or a great meal, but when I end up paying for everything, every time, then it is time to sit down, and have a serious talk.

Clothes Make a Man

Every girl is crazy about sharp dressed men. No matter how great your man is on the inside, a mature man always reflects his confidence on the outside as well. And it’s okay to have a personal style, but torn jeans, stained and wrinkled shirts, messed up and greasy hair, are not a style. They are signs that he has no clue how to take care of himself. And when he cannot take care of himself, you have to wonder can he take care of you?

Still a Teen?

Acting your age is always an issue. We all want to go back to the wild days when we stayed out partying until dawn. But if he still has a fear of missing out, and drinking himself silly every single weekend, then he is definitely a man-child. Thinking that a lazy Saturday home with you, a quiet evening in your favorite restaurant is ludicrous, just doesn’t do it for me.man-child video games men humor Time has stopped for him, and he is still in his teens. Furthermore, he should be aware that how he acts reflects on you as well. So, if you go out together and he makes a fool out of himself, he is making a fool out of you too. Just something to take into consideration.

Expressing Their Feelings

There is nothing sexier and more alluring to women than a man bursting with self-confidence. Right? But there is a line when over-confidence and not expressing your feelings merge into immaturity. The key to a well-balanced and long-term relationship is respect. A mature man should be confident enough to know, recognize, and express his feeling. If he doesn’t, well that just means that he has a sturdy facade, but nothing to show for it on the inside.

Boys and Their Toys

There is nothing wrong in having a playful, youthful side to our individual personalities. We all used to collect something when we were kids, and in some men that inner-child is more active. men toys bobble heads humorIf your partner likes collecting popular Davey boys toys bobbleheads, Star Wars action figures, Marvel comic books or insane amounts of records, that just means he is passionate about it. And passion is great! Just make sure that his passion for you comes first. After all, you should be his favorite play thing!

In the end, remember when seeking out a partner to be certain of his emotional stability. His character should sweep you off your feet, and not make you faint. He should make the same amount of effort and commitment into the relationship as you. If he doesn’t and his childishness is overwhelming, think of your happiness, and move on.
