workouts progress fitness health FitBit

We are past the middle of January and I am still in the fitness game!  Can I get a woo hoo! **woo hoo**

Let me just start by saying that I have been feeling so much better lately that it’s almost like I am on some kind of a healthy high.  Or maybe that is what it is.  Fitness euphoria.

When I started off at the beginning of the year I weighed myself on Jan 1. And no, I don’t feel like sharing that number with anyone…not even my husband.  Yep that’s right…my husband doesn’t even know my weight.  It’s between me and my scale and the scale isn’t talking.

I actually hate scales, and don’t believe that they should have ever even been invented for the simple fact they can be deceiving and upsetting.  First rule to remember about a scale when working out is that you are gaining muscle and muscle weighs more than fat.  This is why it’s better to measure certain parts of your body with a measuring tape.  I could take a dose of my own advice.

After a week of faithfully going to the gym and eating what I felt like was rabbit food and not having a single drop of alcohol, I then returned to my scale only for it to tell me that I hadn’t lost a single pound.  A SINGLE F*CKING POUND!

For me this was almost discouraging enough that I was about to say forget this…throw in the towel…and just eat and drink what I wanted and exercise when I felt like it.  But something in me decided that quitting wasn’t an option.

So I upped my game a bit.  Started taking my working out a little more serious and cutting out any kind of sugar or junk food.  And believe me…when my son’s birthday party came and went and I didn’t give in to a single slice of pizza or even the smallest piece of cake, I gave myself a huge pat on the back and went on about drinking my spinach and cucumber smoothie.

This past Sunday when my Denver Broncos decided to wait until the last 5 minutes of the game to pull their shit together and I wanted an ice cold beer to calm my nerves …I refrained and drank sparkling water with lime and hit the gym instead.

I decided it was time for the scale and I to have another round at it.  So onto it I went yesterday morning and I am ecstatic, blissful, delighted and even rapturous  to say that I am down 15 pounds! 15 POUNDS!  That’s a 10 and 5 pound bag of potatoes!  Gone.

It was like my mind just needed to tell my body… “Hey body! Wake up!  We are trying to get rid of some weight here!”

It was a huge motivational movement to say the least.  And makes me want to up my game even more.  So this week I added 5 more pounds to my weight lifting and have been monitoring my calorie intake very closely.  We shall see what’s in store for my next interlude with the scale.

My stats below aren’t as good as mine from last week but I think that’s because I spent most of last Tuesday sitting in a vehicle on a 6 hour round trip to buy lottery tickets.  Kills the “moving around”.  I want to try and push myself to 90,000 steps for this week!  And if I succeed what should I reward myself with?

Here are a couple of my rewards that are coming up

20 pounds lost = New workout clothes.  The stuff I work out in now, dates back to about the time my Mini Monster B was born…over 6 years ago.  Let’s just say it’s very airy with all the holes in some of my sweat pants.

Feb 7, 2016 ~ Super Bowl Sunday = I will eat and drink what I want for the entire day!  I won’t count a single calorie nor will I be remotely sober.  And I am sure the next day I will complain about how shitty I feel.  This is of course unless my Broncos win the Super Bowl…then regardless of what kind of food and booze hangover I am recovering from…I will be on an ultimate “That’s my f*cking team” high!

3 months of working out = New FitBit.  My FitBit now is the flex and as much as I have enjoyed it…I really want one that keeps track of my heart rate and I just have to glance at it to see my stats rather than opening up the app.

Until next week,

workout gym updates fitness health

I started working out last year around Halloween time.  Was doing great, even made it through Thanksgiving and still managed to get to the gym after the turkey holiday.

Then December rolled in and it was like “Oh fuck it, let’s just eat all these goodies and wrap the scale in a box and put it under the Christmas tree.”

And boy did I eat the goodies.

I mean seriously…I can’t let all that yummy stuff that my friends slaved to make go to waste…right???

Oh and that cheesecake….I freaking love cheeeeeeesecaaaaaake.  It doesn’t even need a topping.

So January is here now, and so is the scale, and everyone is busy making their new year resolutions and here is just a little list of mine.

I decided to quit drinking.  Pick your chin up off the floor…you read that correctly…no more wine, beer, vodka…nadda!  Except for rare special occasions.  Like for instance if the Denver Broncos make it to the Super Bowl this year and win…that will be cause for celebration and lots of ingesting of booze alcohol wine….whatever I shall feel like consuming that day.  Let’s go BRONCOS!

But there will be no more bottles of wine opened while making dinner and finished before bedtime.  No more cocktails when I have had a really rough day and the kids have disintegrated my nerves.  And no more ice-cold beers on date nights with the hubby.  However, there will still be date nights…most likely at the local movie theatre where no alcohol is served.

I know it’s only been 5 days…but so far so good.  My husband of course thinks there is no way that I am going to give up wine.  Therefore, now it’s turned into a challenge.  **thinks about the lovely taste of a good red wine embracing her palette**

Ah yes back to reality…I’ve been challenged.

The gym.  The gym will be somewhere I am going to be visiting daily…on Tuesdays and Thursdays it will be twice a day as I am going to take up a Zumba class with my lovely “let’s hope we don’t die laughing or fall on our faces” partner Heather.  I don’t do well with aerobic classes in the fact that I hate repetition, but I have heard a lot of good stuff about Zumba so I gave it a shot…

There was a lot of hip thrusting…dance moves…and me huffing and puffing watching the clock.  Rhythm is also helpful in a Zumba class as every move is to the beat of music.

200.gif

There were also these little two-pound weight shaker objects that when you first pick them up you think “oh this is like nothing”. But after swinging them around in the air for an hour they feel like 50 pound weights.  Or maybe I’m just really out of shape.  I remember going to the clubs in my 20’s and 30’s and dancing my ass off and not skipping a beat or breaking a sweat but that was because there was large amounts of alcohol in my body which we all know gives you the energy of a 2-year-old.

All in all I can honestly say that I really enjoyed the Zumba class and highly recommend anyone that has contemplated going to do so.  The part I mentioned about rhythm, yes…it’s good to have but there were plenty of people who didn’t have any and were still there trying.  One lady was like 70 and she was rocking it.

Time to start choosing the right fuel to put in my body.  I ate nothing but crappy food the entire month of December and drank enough booze to open my own bar.  And my body let me know it.

Even getting back to the gym the extra weight I put on makes it that much harder to work out.  Even 5 pounds…just pick up a 5 pound bag of potatoes and imagine yourself carrying all that extra weight around.

I have designated 2016 as my year to fix me.  When you fix yourself first, then you are a better person for those around you.  I will be posting about my progress every Wednesday so stay tuned…

Have you made any goals for 2016?  Let me know in the comments.

Staying On Track: 2 Months Now

I can’t say it has been a solid two months of getting in shape but I am however being consistent.  I am finally noticing a change in my fleshy anatomy body and my poundage weight is down by 12 numbers on the scale.  And regardless if I have a few days of “unhealthy” eating it stays steadily at that weight.  My next goal will be another 10 pounds and to have it regulated at that weight as well.  I do this so that the chances of gaining the weight back are less likely to sneak up on me.

I will be the first to admit that I loathe going to the gym.  Especially if it’s at 4:30 in the morning.  My body just does not know how to operate in that kind of manner anytime before noon.  I will take a 5 hour energy, get to the gym at 4:45, and when I get  back home sometimes go right back to sleep.  No joke.  Other days I am up, showered, and waiting for the kids to wake up.  Thankfully those early morning gym times aren’t everyday.

A couple days ago my workout partner and I attempted a new torture device exercise machineUnknown

It’s working great don’t you agree?  Oh whoops that’s not me.  Anyway that’s what the machine kind of looks like and let me tell you every muscle from my neck to my ass hurts.  I was a walking conglomeration of Salonpas last night even after a hot epsom salt bath and a gallon jug bottle of wine.  And today isn’t any different only I no longer smell like medicinal mint and I am out of wine…again.

Writing Challenge: Day 2

Write about something you look forward to in the next 12 months…

That’s a whole year of things to look forward to.  Do I need to pick just one?  Well that is just impossible so here is a list of  my top 5…

Warmer Weather  Right now I am looking forward to the summertime and the fact that we actually have a completed yard this year….with GRASS!  Grass in which my children can enjoy the “slippery when wet” happenings of a large piece of yellow plastic positioned on the lush green landscape.  Yes I am referring to a “Slip ‘N’ Slide“.  Although the invention has come a long way since the days of my fun with it.

My Little B Man Starting Kindergarten  This is a bittersweet moment really.   I still have to remind myself daily that he is now 5 years of age.  And as happy as I am that he will be starting another journey in his life, I am also sad that I can’t slow down the hands of time sometimes and bask more in his full on “toddlerness“.

Getting In Shape  I am sure it will take me the next 12 months to successfully get where I want to be.  It’s been a slow going process but I am still on track and now with the faithful enthusiasm of my workout partner,  my motivation will succeed!  I still have those great pair of “before babies” jeans hanging in the closet…staring at me every time I think I want to eat a bag hand full of chips.

VACATION Yes that is all in capital letters.  My husband and I haven’t had an overnighter…alone…together…since our friends wedding in August of 2012.  Wow…typing it…really puts it in perspective.  Date nights are great but we are in desperate need of a night full of drunken stupidity including…an uninterrupted dinner, at a quiet table for two, in the dark corner of a restaurant, with a “not so cheap” bottle (or 3) of wine, a visit to the strip club, a hotel room with only one bed, pay-per-view porn, whip cream, nipple clamps, lots of shenanigans between the sheets without worrying about the bedroom door not staying locked, and the ability to sleep until our eyes “want” to open instead of being slapped in the face by several toddlers persistently screaming “I’m hungry!!!”

images-5

A New Vehicle The time has come to replace the “mommy-mobile” with something “cooler”…and I am not referring to air conditioning.  Not that driving a minivan somehow dwindles  my level of awesomeness but the fact that I have to crawl into the back, while consistently hitting my head on something to buckle everyone in, and the fact that it’s not 4WD and we now live in a predominantly 4WD part of the country, makes the minivan useless and impractical to me.  Of course long gone are the days of a 2 seater but I welcome an SUV.

A year is a long time…full of many changes and a “bigger” list then 5, of things to look forward to.  I cherish every moment of life and remind myself often that “everyday is a gift“.

Getting On Track Again

Getting On Track Again.

It’s been one month that I have been on the healthy track again.  And I feel fantastic!  Not much has changed with my body yet but my mind and attitude have changed drastically.  It really is true that exercise and eating right ((we won’t talk about the several pieces of pizza I had the last few days)) truly is the key to feeling better.

Lastnight I took a walk around the neighborhood…something I had done at the beginning of the “getting on track” process and I could do it with much more ease.  I had more energy even though it was 5:30 in the evening.  Oh in case I forgot to mention…my neighborhood is full of hills…very big hills that are equivalent to putting the treadmill on a 10 incline.  It’s a workout.  But afterwards I just felt great!  For those of you starting out on the healthy track or you started a new year’s resolution but then it faded…it’s never too late to start again!  Grab a friend, your husband, hell…even grab a kid or two if you have to and get moving!

Getting On Track Again

exercise-cartoons

After taking a few months off from getting fit I finally have decided it’s time to get back on the healthy track.  For the past couple years I have lost and gained weight but I could not get lower then a particular weight.  Therefore I would get discouraged and just give up because let’s face it, that’s just easier in my chaotic life.  Well I am happy to say that I got on the scale the other day and I am finally under that weight.  Nothing like a little weight loss incentive to get me in “the mood”….for the gym….geesh…where are your minds?

For Christmas my husband (per my request) bought me a Fitbit.  At first it was just a gadget that I wore on my wrist to remind me how lazy and unfit I was becoming.  Then, with the help of my bestie, I discovered there were challenges that you could set up to have contests with friends and family who also have the device.  Nothing like a little competition for me to convince myself that I need to get up and get moving…especially when my own mother has taken the leader spot for several weeks now! (I swear she must have that damn thing attached to a fan blade)  Of course there are some days that I think I am motivated and getting my steps in only to check my device and find that it has been on sleep mode.  It’s about equivalent to getting on the scale after eating rabbit food for a week only to realize you haven’t lost a single pound.

Unknown

Luckily for me my husband wants to get on board the healthy track as well which makes it much easier for me to be motivated.  Granted we have been here before and then gotten sidetracked but at least we have never completely given up.  He of course wants to get some workout equipment for the house but I sincerely believe there is a reason why the internet is flooded with people trying to sell their workout merchandise, that they just had to have, because in time it became just like the rest of the furniture.

funny-exercise-cartoon

I really don’t like exercise while I am in the middle of doing it.  Let’s face it, sweating and panting is not sexy unless you are in the horizontal position…and no I am not referring to planks or push ups.  Not to mention I always feel like the “underdog” at the gym.  Like somehow everyone else knows how to work out so much better then I do.  But at the same time, I like being in a gym environment and around other people with motivation to get healthy.  So for now I will set tiny goals for myself to try and stay on the fit track.  And regardless of how comfy my sweats and yoga pants are I will remind myself that they are just as comfy to get up and get moving in.
