SunRype Products Review

SunRype gluten free vegan kosher energy

I was contacted by the lovely Shelley Carter with SunRype Products and asked if I would be interested in trying out a couple of their new products.

Fruit & Chia bars which are completely Gluten and Peanut free as well as Vegan and certified Kosher.  These bars are made using whole grain gluten-free oats and fruit.  They have two flavor options, Apple Cinnamon and Mango Twist.  They are a great source of vital nutrients such as magnesium, phosphorus, fiber, and omega 3 fatty acids.

Next is the Energy bars.  These bars contain 7g of plant protein.  They are also Gluten and Peanut free as well as Vegan.  The bars are a great source of Iron and fiber.  They come in two flavor combinations as well. Chocolate Coconut and Raspberry Chocolate flavors.

Now I have a family that loves to grab a granola bar for a snack and I have even spent time in the kitchen making my own just so that I know exactly what is being put into them.  But sometimes I just don’t have time for that and honestly I don’t like baking.

So I put them to the test with three teenagers (one who happens to have Celiac disease) and my 3 littles.  And of course myself.  The taste testing result was as follows:

Two teenage boys said they were good but had a strange texture.  (They are sticky so not crumbly like the granola bars that they are used to).

Teenager with Celiac disease said they were really good and that she would eat them again.

My 3 littles LOVED them.  They wanted more as a snack later.

And I thought they were tasty as well.  I would gladly take them on the go or eat one for breakfast as I am not a big breakfast eater but will usually try to get at least some calories going in my body.  They are small sized bars but surprisingly filling.

I would gladly purchase this product.

If you are interested in buying them you can click here to find a list of grocery stores that carries them.

You can also order them by the case online here.

For more information and a full list of products you can visit there website here.

I want to thank Shelley for giving me the opportunity to work with her and in doing so, I have found a delicious alternative to some of the granola and protein bars that I currently purchase.

When Is Candy Too Much Candy?

candy kids nutrition hyper

Yes I know it’s the holidays and everyone is buying and making holiday goodies (except me of course).  I still have a bag of Halloween candy sitting in the safe in which I plan to throw away ….tomorrow!  (I say that everyday but for some reason it’s still in there)

It seems like lately, everytime I pick my kids up from school they have some kind of candy or even bags FULL of candy! Why?!?!?!

Why must we send the kids home with bags of candy that I then just have to turn into asshole mean mommy and take them away and dispense at my discretion?  Yes I am that kind of mom and before you go thinking I’m mean or start judging me, let me just tell you that my kids, after having sugar, are like tweakers jumping out of the bushes at Wal-Mart….hyper and scary!

kids candy hyper eating habits nutrition

And let’s discuss the chocolate milk sold at school.  Before little monster M started school he had chocolate milk maybe twice in his little 5 years of life.  Why give them any other option besides plain milk?  Wouldn’t it save the school system money to have less options?

Oh I already hear the comments in my head of the parents who say “Well that’s the only way my kids will drink their milk”.  As if somehow filling it full of sugar is then helping in the source of calcium they are getting.  I can assure you it’s not.

I realize that our generation grew up doing a lot of “food related” things differently but I also believe that’s why we have such an obesity and other health related problems due to bad eating habits.  I now realize that the pan fried hamburger that my grandmother served me as a kid WASN’T GOOD FOR ME.  But back then we just didn’t know any better.  Now we do.  Unless of course you haven’t read anything about nutrition and somehow live in the dark age.

Now, don’t get me wrong, yes I still give my kids “bad” stuff sometimes…key word here sometimes, but for the most part I try to make sure that they have fish, healthy carbs, and fresh vegatables.  My kids will eat lightly steamed broccoli (without cheese sauce) like it’s potato chips.  And yes there are times that they will turn their noses up at something in which I don’t force them to eat it as long as they have tried it, but there are consequences such as no snacks the next day between lunch and dinner.  Starve your children and they will pretty much eat anything.  **evil laughs**

I know we are busy moms and there are times that mac and cheese from the box **gasps** and Oscar Meyer hot dogs **shrieks** get served and it’s OK.  Just not ALL THE TIME.  Fast food….yep my kids get it as a treat once a week after I pick them up from school….buuuuuut….they will choose apple slices over french fries.  Yep you read that right, my kids are not big fans of french fries….really not fans of potatoes in general.  And when I make a potato dish as a side for dinner, and they don’t like it, I cannot bring myself to force them to eat it.  I mean seriously life would be so much easier for me if I didn’t like potatoes.

Rant over…

5 More Herbs And Their Benefits

5 Herbs And Their BenefitsWelcome to the third installment of herbs and the benefits of using them.  If you missed the other two posts you can read them here (part 1) and here (part 2).

Lemon Balm ~ Grows as a bushy perennial with long stems, leaves, and flowers.5 More Herbs And Their Benefits  It gives off a very strong lemon scent which I myself love the smell of lemons.  Lemon balm is a great antioxidant and helps aid in digestion by stimulating bile flow.  It’s also used to help with stress and anxiety especially in an essential oil form.  For juicing you can use the entire sprig fed through the juicer or you can dry the sprigs and then crush them to put in blended smoothies.

Nutmeg ~ Usually found in an already crushed form, most use it for flavoring in cooking.  Nutmeg is also good for colic, muscle tension and diarrhea.  5 More Herbs And Their BenefitsHaving problems sleeping?  Sprinkle some in some chamomile tea at night,  spray lavender on the sheets and see what happens.

Oats ~ Who doesn’t love oats?  These days so many recipes are using oats as a healthy alternative grain and that’s because the list of healing properties include improving stamina…even that of libido and nourishing of brain nerves.  Have a hangover?  Eat a bowl of oatmeal.  Having brain zaps from trying to get off anti-depressant drugs? 5 More Herbs And Their Benefits Have a fruit smoothie with a cup of oats included.  Oats also help lower cholesterol when consumed daily.  For 10 more reasons why oats are great just click here.

Parsley ~ Yes that stuff that is used to decorate the side of your plate comes with some health benefits.  Not only is it one of the richest food sources for vitamin C but it also helps the body rid of water retention  and flushes the kidneys out.5 More Herbs And Their Benefits  When juicing, use the sprig in its entirety or for smoothies use a couple of dry teaspoons full.  A flavanol found in parsley has been shown to have chemopreventive effects on certain types of skin cancer.  The folic acid in parsley helps with blood flow and is good for your heart.

Peppermint ~ This hardy and invasive perennial is very fragrant and produces bright green leaves with small pink, white, and purple flowers.  It is very popular in its ability to squash the common ailment of stomach nausea.  Peppermint also helps with motion sickness, fevers, and even Crohn’s disease.5 More Herbs And Their Benefits

Peppermint oil is also becoming widely used.  It’s used to scent various soaps and cosmetics and also as a flavoring in many beverages.  For me the scent of peppermint always reminds me of this time of year and the Christmas holiday.  I especially love “Peppermint Mocha Creamer” in my coffee!

Staying On Track: 2 Months Now

I can’t say it has been a solid two months of getting in shape but I am however being consistent.  I am finally noticing a change in my fleshy anatomy body and my poundage weight is down by 12 numbers on the scale.  And regardless if I have a few days of “unhealthy” eating it stays steadily at that weight.  My next goal will be another 10 pounds and to have it regulated at that weight as well.  I do this so that the chances of gaining the weight back are less likely to sneak up on me.

I will be the first to admit that I loathe going to the gym.  Especially if it’s at 4:30 in the morning.  My body just does not know how to operate in that kind of manner anytime before noon.  I will take a 5 hour energy, get to the gym at 4:45, and when I get  back home sometimes go right back to sleep.  No joke.  Other days I am up, showered, and waiting for the kids to wake up.  Thankfully those early morning gym times aren’t everyday.

A couple days ago my workout partner and I attempted a new torture device exercise machineUnknown

It’s working great don’t you agree?  Oh whoops that’s not me.  Anyway that’s what the machine kind of looks like and let me tell you every muscle from my neck to my ass hurts.  I was a walking conglomeration of Salonpas last night even after a hot epsom salt bath and a gallon jug bottle of wine.  And today isn’t any different only I no longer smell like medicinal mint and I am out of wine…again.
